FAO PN staff - I think my BRAS profile is stuck

Hi guys,

I've just finished my 10 day bedding in period with Max. My router is syncing at 8128/448 with SNR ~10dB constantly. Stability is fine and I've been disconnecting and reconnecting every 28hrs or so. My stable rate is showing as 8000kbps using the portal.

Yet my speed still looks like it is capped at 2M. I've run the speed tester at various times of day with the following results:

09-09-2006 15:03:23 1906
08-09-2006 16:54:51 1888.9
08-09-2006 11:44:21 1907.5
08-09-2006 01:45:22 1872.2
07-09-2006 12:46:48 1866.7
07-09-2006 01:00:37 1906.4
06-09-2006 17:50:41 1911.3
06-09-2006 11:57:27 1888.6
06-09-2006 09:36:44 1899.6
06-09-2006 00:37:47 1912.7
05-09-2006 17:20:34 1626
05-09-2006 15:29:50 1790.7
05-09-2006 15:17:08 1805
04-09-2006 18:17:29 1911.4
04-09-2006 14:42:33 1901.8
04-09-2006 10:08:55 1903
03-09-2006 11:47:32 1968.6

The BT speed tester is giving similar results, never over 1900. So I think there is something set up on my profile to cap my speed.

I've raised a ticket too (20251545) - could you please investigate for me and see if you can get BT to update my profile?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi, I'm in the same boat here too. Maxed on 17th August. Still stuck at 2mb. Router 8128down 448up no disconnections.

Posted on the forum about this and ended up raising a ticket on the 3rd September, which was then passed onto the faults team as a likely stuck BRAS. But still waiting for BT to sort it out.

Would be interresting to see how many people are in the same position.

In the same club -- maxxed on the 17th August, remained stuck at 2meg, waited 10 days then raised a ticket. After trying a few things, +net agreed to raise a speed related fault on 1st September. I am still waiting for +net to resolve it... Given BTs tardiness, one can only suspect there are quite a few BRAS issues out there. On a gloomier note, +net is reporting that connection faults take an AVERAGE of almost 10 days to close -- which probably means we could be waiting up to God knows how long before these problems are fixed.

Maxxed but not maxxed

FAO PN staff - I think my BRAS profile is stuck

Im in exactly the same boat. My connection was maxed around a fortnight ago, my modem is showing 8128/448, but speeds will not go above 2mb. I have done various speedtests and on the whole they are very reasonable.

Yet even with these results my speeds will not go above a 2mb connection. For example if im downloading a file, it will go up to 250kbps and not go any further. Im assuming this is a BRAS issue. I was just wondering if anybody could advise me on what to do with this matter? Help would be very much appreciated =)

Hi onebyone,

Unless I am terribly wrong, your speed appears tobe 6.128 meg download -- that is well beyond 2 meg. Your d/l speed is likely to be constrained by exchange contention rather than BRAS. You really need to post your s/n ratio as well but you may well be geting the best your line will support (which is pretty damn good anyway).

Best Wishes

FAO PN staff - I think my BRAS profile is stuck

Hi,

For anyone who thinks the BRAS hasn't updated then the first thing to do is run the BT Speedtest:

http://usertools.plus.net/tutorials/id/27

at least 3 times both on and off peak to see if the speed ever goes above 2Mbps. If it does, but only say off peak then the problem is more than likely exchange contention. If you're over the first 10-14 days and the sync rate has been higher for at least 5 days then raise it via the fault checker and we can look into it.

FAO PN staff - I think my BRAS profile is stuck

Hi Dave,

I did the BT speed checks on Monday -- still awaiting a resolution. I would like a clarification of how this actually works. You guys set the rate but it seems to depend on actions by BT. Perhaps we would all get a little less hot under the collar if we knew the internal processes between +net and BT ro set BRAS. I am sure that +net often takes the vitriol that perhaps should be rightly directed at BT -- mind you, a lack of communication doesn't help your case either (my ticket has been open for 152 hours and STILL counting).

Best wishes
Ziggx
