Email timeouts again, and queues

I've been getting timeouts on trying to connect to Plusnet's mail service this morning.

(Nothing has changed my end, before you ask)

reported error (0x8004210Cool : 'Outlook is unable to connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP)

Yesterday it seems there was a mail queue building up too, as I did not receive an email I know has been sent, I was hoping to get it today but I cannot even connect now.

There shouldn't be any problems this morning as all the mail queues are back to normal levels.

Do you run Norton or a similar anti-virus package? The error message you quote is often related to that package. Have you recently downloaded an update or changed any settings?

Yes - AVG - but I'm sure it's not that

Oh, and I use other email s/w too, so it's not just an Outlook/Office problem.

Archived

I have since used Webmail and saw the following email message from Plusnet which may or may not be relevant:

----------
This email is to inform you that your mailbox has been archived.

We have taken this action as you have not accessed your default mailbox since
08:28:41 08/03/2006.
To keep your mailbox active, you need to access it and collect E-Mail at least
once in a 180 day period."
------------------

The default had been set up as a black-hole to filter spam, but I cannot connect to my usual non-default mailbox.

If you can login using Webmail then you should be able to using POP3 on your mail client.

Can you try with AVG temporarily disabled?

I think this problem is wider than just one person. I too am getting mailbox access failures to a number of different mailboxes.

Nothing has changed at my end and it looks like the periodic problem that occurs when the servers are being swamped with spam or the hellacoyas have been reprogrammed. Cry
