Email recovery program

I question the benefit of this email recovery program now. While like everyone else, I lost I am sure some email which was important at the time, by now the email which is recovered will be worthless in value.

I can not believe that it takes so long to recover the data which went missing. I hope that plus net do not use the same "experts" in future.

Email by nature is a fast medium and if yesterdays newspaper is todays fish paper then email has an even shorter shelf life. The constant time slots for the start of the recovery process has in my opinion, provided me with more evidence of plus net running things on the cheap to maximise profit to share holders. When I first joined the customer service was highly regarde by all and you felt that the customer was always put first. I wonder how much plusnet paid for the services of these recovery experts, I would guess it was peanuts. We all know if you pay peanuts you get monkeys, problem is that this reflects how plusnet now regards us as customers.

The question of its benefit might be academic anyway. The latest update says "Our technical engineers are currently putting together a lengthy update on the technical side of this issue". That isn't sounding too hopeful. No mention of when (whether?) the data is to be recovered.

Personally I am not interested in the technical excuses - I just want to see what, if any, emails went astray.

I am astounded that it is taking so long - especially where so-called recovery specialists are involved. It also concerns me that the promised updates are mostly late, and when they appear they don't say anything new.

I suspect that plusnet went down to the pub after they heard that email had been lost to drown their sorrows. Discussing it over several drinks someone at the bar chirped up I`m an expert at recovering lost data, buy me a pint and I`ll get your data back quicker than you can down a pint.

Email recovery program

Does anyone have any idea of how much email has been lost and over what period?

Is it still being lost?

is it incoming mail?
Or Out going mail?
Or both?

I have one particular email that I first sent 15 days ago, then again 8 days ago, and then again yesterday to <name>@a-ok.co.uk
but have had no failure notification so I am now begining to wonder whether PN are persistently losing email.

Would they know?

Go to www.dnsstuff.com and use the Email test. This will let you know whether the email address is alive. If not then you should have had a notification from PN servers.

Thanks pchambers.

All that told me was "@a-ok.co.uk IS believed to be a free E-mail domain."

What should I make of that?

Believe you used Free email lookup, go to the right and use email. Enter the full email address, not just the domain.

Hi
Tried that as well. Not really very much more informative.

"Trying to connect to all mailservers:

mx.mailanyone.net. - 69.31.1.151 [Successful connect: Got a good response [250 Accepted]] (took 0.391 seconds)

NOTE: This tool does NOT attempt to determine if an E-mail address exists!"

Seems to be trying to tell me that the mailserver exists but nothing about the email address. Worth a try though.

Have also been trying to raise a ticket via this new "Help Assistant" which seems to have been set up in such a way that it is the last thing it will actually help you to do.

Just leaves you in limbo.
No wonder the number of tickets has gone down :-)

That statement is slightly misleading. It's dependent on the mailserver setup. With my mailserver I except all aliases so yes the statement above is true. But with the email address you are testing the mailserver only accept valid addresses. If you try a different alias you will see that the server will reject it.

So it's very likely that the emails that you sent were delivered. So the questions are. 1. Did the 3rd reponded to your email? 2. If they did why did you not receive them?

PN can't/won't offer much support on thie. They would suggest speaking to the 3rd person to confirm that the email were sent. If you have another non pn email address you could send another email requesting that they reply to both addresses.

Hi

Tried a made up address as you suggested and the tester got a message

"Trying to connect to all mailservers:

mx.mailanyone.net. - 69.31.1.151 [Could not connect: Got an unknown RCPT TO response: 550 Email Address was not found lvl2]
NOTE: This tool does NOT attempt to determine if an E-mail address exists"

I guess all that proves (indirectly) that the earlier test was to a valid address.

Have checked with intended recipent several times who advises that no email has been received.

Just occured to me that what I have not done is ask recipient to check spam filter Sad
Will do that.

Again THANKS.

Ahh, not recieved that's a different story. You probably need to raise this with PN. PN then maybe able to see if they were delivered from the SMTP servers.

Have you another SMTP server that you could use? This will bypass PN completely.

Sadly no - just the one account with PN.

I have left a voice message suggesting that he asks son (who set everything up) whether a spam filter has been set up. Otherwise I will print it and post it Sad

I have raised a ticket with PN by a circuitous route.
