Email Outage

I have noticed a greater number of times the email servers have been down. Is this just me.
Also that emails are taking forever to get to where thay are going. I send an email to a college at work. It took something like 20 hours to get there. We I had him hunting in the compaines spam/porn filters just incase. I did get there eventually. Might as well put a first class stamp on it and send it snail mail.

I certainly did notice that the incoming mail server, mail.force9.net, wasn't responding last night on several occasions. There was nothing posted in Help & Support about server outages either (nothing new there then!).

However, I was sending mail OK as relay.force9.net responded every time.

If your email took 20 hours to get to a colleague at work, then there's an awful lot more involved than just Force9's servers. Did you check the email header after it had arrived to see where the holdup was?

Of course, as is the way of things, I'm waiting on several important incoming emails.

But that was at 10;49, it is now 1423, still no email. This happened yesterday at this time and the day before.

Mine came back for a few hours last night, but has gone again today. The service status announcement doesn't tell us a great deal either.

Email is one of the core parts of an ISP's service provision, it is not a value added extra. Five days this has been going on for, on and off. About time it was sorted properly now isn't it?

To me the core part of an ISPs provision is providing Internet Access, not including email, webspace etc. etc.

My email access is borked today again - I can't access via either web or email client.

A few weeks ago, I warned someone that using F9 to host a business web site might not be a good idea, based on the number of recent problems with CGI, logs, home pages going down, etc. At that time, another poster to the same thread echoed my sentiments and pointed out that he'd be better off leaving F9 if he couldn't rely on such a service.

Like many other people, I rely on email. I use it daily. Because of the continuing email fiasco, I've had to open another email account elsewhere, ie I cannot depend on the F9 email service any longer. So that's yet another service we cannot rely on.

I'm not going to debate the point whether it's core or not, but for the majority of users, a working email service is essential.

I keep thinking, "give it another month, things will surely start to improve," but they aren't. More bits break and all we get (if we are lucky) are platitudes about new policies and changes which most of us are finding some difficulty in accepting because it's not happening at our end.

Let's be honest about this - ALL of F9's services have been going downhill for months now, and after 8 years with F9, even I'm getting to the point where I've had enough. This week's (latest) email fiasco is hammering another nail into the coffin.

Couldn't agree more. I too have been with F9 for donkey's years now, but the time is fast approaching when I move ISP. As mentioned earlier, email is one of, of not the most used feature of internet access to the vast majority of users.

I can just about handle it if I have to resort to using the portal to collect my messages, but not even that works now!

Are f9/Plusnet willing to reimburse me for loss of earnings because I was unable to accept a job offer emailed to me? No. I didn't think so.

A full week so far....still having timeouts, and no email again tonight.

Is this the improved email platform we were promised?

A total of five ambers in the service status, this does not bode well. Time for a Google!
