Email Down?

Hi,

Mine's fine too. Do you get an error message? Is it sending or receiving (or both), if both do you get 2 different error messages?

Email Down?

Do you have any antivirus or firewall software that could be blocking the mail?

Click on the two links below you should see responses similar to what I list below, if not post what you do see.

Do have Norton IS 2005 but didn't work either when I temporarily disabled it.

Said "Connecting to mail.plus.net" and "Connecting to Relay.plus.net" - left like that for ages to no avail!

I've seen similar with Norton in the past, not pointing the finger, but it does happen quite a lot with that software. Disabling doesn't always work because I think Norton runs as a service.

Certainly with telnet timing out you can rule out your mail client as causing the problem, so I would say that Norton is the more logical cause of the problem.

I've got the same problem. Can't send out through relay.plus.net - times out with error 451 "Temporary local problem - please try later" and incoming error messages mostly fail.

I have had one success with a message to myself via my email forwarder to my plus.net email. The test message didn't get forwarded but the delivery failure notification did:

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at krypton.larknet.co.uk.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

<phil@philandmel.plus.com>:
212.159.11.36 does not like recipient.

Giving up on 212.159.11.36.
I'm not going to try again; this message has been in the queue too long.

I am using avast antivirus but have switched it off while trying to resolve this problem.

Telnet access to the mail servers as described above works ok.

I solved mine using the Windows XP "system restore" going back to settings from a couple of days ago.

The domain philandmel.com is showing as expired and could be the cause of the mail issue.

Argh! - a disaster.
My domain has indeed expired without my knowledge.
I wasn't expecting that - thanks for your help pcsni.
