Download speeds down to 120 kb/s what on earth?

Ive seen various other slow speed complaints, but mine seems to have dropped so massively over the past few weeks that i have to wonder what is going on.

Since people seem to get a faster service here than the glacial tech support service, I thought i would bring it up.

My line has always been unreasonably slow, but over the past several weeks it has descended to the level of a complete joke.

As you can imagine, Downloads are glacial, and browsing little better than 56k.

Please can you post up your router stats, and IP profile from the BT speed tester (Providing you are not LLU.)

Ok, here you go.

IP profile for your line is - 250 kbps
DSL connection rate: 384 kbps(UP-STREAM) 672 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 225 kbps

(Ok What? IP profile used to be a couple of megs)

Not sure exactly what you want from the router but...

MAC Address 00:14:6c:6b:0b:db
IP Address 80.229.45.187
Network Type PPPoA
IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.255
Gateway IP Address 195.166.128.101
Domain Name Server 212.159.6.10
212.159.6.9

ADSL Firmware Version 6.01.00.12
Modem Status Connected
DownStream Connection Speed 672 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 384 kbps
VPI 0
VCI 38

(For the record, its crept back up towards 250 down 300 up and stabilised since i rebooted the modem, something i had forgotten to do)

By the look of your stats, and the fact that your IP profile is so low. Looks like you have an issue either with your phone line, micro filters, internal phone extentions or router its self.

Is there any noise on the phone during voice calls?

Also try locating your router at the BT master socket with all phones and extensions disconnected.

Then check your router for faster sync speeds.

Hi,

Looking at the speed history from BT for your line it looks like the sync speed decreased from around 2Mbps on 7/4/07 down to first 1.5Mbps at 08/04/2007 10:21:27, then 0.5Mbps at 08/04/2007 19:59:31 and finally down to 288kbps on 12/04/2007 03:11:34. Do those times tie in with anything that may have caused the line to resync and then sync at a higher rate? (Times are usually accurate to around 1 hour).

As Chilly suggests it could easily be a wiring or filter problem, this is worth a read to see if anything helps:

I really cant think of anything, wiring setup hasnt changed, the phone lines havent changed, no damage or change that i can see with the phonelines, phone, or anything like that.

I did notice that all the speeds jumped when i rebooted the modem, (its normally always on) and i now have an IP profile of 500.

Yep, just checked the speed report and it's showing the increase just after 10pm, presumably it's been sync'd above 576kbps for the last 3-5 days (but below 1Mbps).

If all the wiring checks out then if you haven't already try the router at the master socket with nothing else connected to the line and see if the sync rate increases, if you've already done it (or it makes no difference) then raise it as a fault via the fault checker (under connection settings on the left) and we can run some remote testing and see if we can find out what's wrong.
