Downgrade Heaven

I have just downgraded from 8mb Max DSL to PAYG 2mb and I am now back to a 1.7mb download speed from a poxy 'Up To 400ish' on the Max DSL.

I must say the support team were prompt but ineffecient and also BT's line speed restrictions are just plainly wrong :x

I was told I could not receive a speed above 1mb and was refused the line cap speed to be reset above 1mb. I then explained that before moving over to the 8mb service I regurlarly achieved good connectivity and 1.8mb speeds.

So now I am happy to chug along at 1.7mb whilst Bt + Plusnet sort out the Max DSL chaos

If you give us three sets of information we can advise you what needs doing:

1. The results from http://speedtester.bt.com/

2. What does https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=stable_rate say?

3. Can you post your modem stats (attenuation and noise margin). Information on finding these can be obtained from http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.htm

Cheers Elvin

I have moved over now to the 2mb PAYG but prior to that the BT line stated a 500kbs rate

The rate on your link now states 1mb speed

The Router stats and BT speedtests are below:-

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2400 kbps 256 kbps
Line Attenuation 34.0 db 16.5 db
Noise Margin 14.8 db 6.0 db

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 2432 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 254 kbps

The reason for your current speeds is the IP Profile speed set by BT. That indicates that at some point you synced at around 500kbps. This was probably as a result of some sort of interference. If you remain connected at your current speed your IP Profile will rise again after 3 to 5 days, but you really need to find out what caused the low sync speed.

The fact that you have just changed to PAYG is a co-incidence.
