DNS proxy failure this afternoon Thursday 21 July

Hi,
My internet connection was disabled today and it took me a little time to figure out the problem.

My ZyXEL router was no longer acting as a proxy DNS.

I am only back by "hardwiring" the Plusnet DNS addresses into the PC.

Anyone else have this problem? Is it a Plusnet issue, or has my router glitched in some way?

Regards,

DNS proxy failure this afternoon Thursday 21 July

Something seemed to kill the core DNS servers at about 1pm from what I could see.

everything seemed fine all day at work, but at home there was no connection to the PN network at 5pm, just a BT Wholesale error page saying PN were unable to accept the connection.
Using dial up got me online, and I connected via VPN to work to check all was well there - which it still was.
I'm on exchange MYPUD if that sheds any light?

20:35. I just rebooted my router.

The situation is still the same. Still no DNS assignment to my router.

I have full connectivity, but only with hardwired DNS addresses.

So this is not a problem for me, but I guess that my modem is not being given full DHCP information by Plusnet.

I also guess that some customers are still in trouble.

Zyxel 660HW rebooted 22:00 BST, no dns servers allocated. All works fine with PN DNS severs hardwired into TCP config.

Same situation

I've got the same problem.... connection is ok, but no DNS.
Also on a ZyXEL ADSL router.

Still not working this morning :-(

Have PlusNet changed their DNS servers or upgraded them ? as I can get on the net with one machine on my network (hence how I'm typing this) but not another, all connected via a hub to the same adsl modem.

The one not working properly still has gnutella p2p working. If I use an address such as www.google.co.uk it won't resolve but if I use 216.239.59.104 I get a connection. Weird...

I haven't changed a thing on the machine that's not working properly, checked all my settings ...
Primary DNS 212.159.13.49
Secondary DNS 212.159.13.50
Tertiary 212.159.6.10

ns1 and ns2 are still timing out but the others seem ok. Do not know which ones are being fed on login.

If you have Zyxel gear, I suggest looking at the Zyxel site for information on traffic logging.

It should be easily possible for you to find out if an attempt to assigned DNS servers is made at all.

I'm using a Dlink ethernet/adsl modem, I checked it's log file and it is connected to plusnet with the dns servers I listed above (the same as I got my machines configured to use). Like I said before one machine is ok the other times out when resolving, but gnutella works fine on it, but irc/email/web doesn't... weird ? (I guess gnutella doesn't use dns servers)
Ho hum, hope plus net get their dns servers back upto speed soon.

DNS proxy failure this afternoon Thursday 21 July

Hi,

We made a few changes and aren't seeing any more calls coming in, can everyone retry (you might need to reboot your PC and modem/router first) and let us know if it's OK now.
