DNS Problems / Timeouts when surfing

General surfing has been a pain for several days now. When a website is clicked, it can take several clicks to get to the website. An error page comes up saying that the website cant be found. Sometimes it can take several seconds of blank screen before the website appears. Average ping to plusnet just now (offpeak time) is 51ms. It used to be 31ms or better. There has been no hardware changes at this end.
Any ideas folks?

DNS Problems / Timeouts when surfing

nslookup bbc.co.uk 212.159.13.49

Does this time out for you at all if trying repeatedly from a command prompt?

Try substituting the IP for that of our other DNS addresses too:-

212.159.6.9
212.159.6.10
212.159.13.50

Thanks for that, Liam is looking into this now.

It does not look like the other servers are affected so you should be OK using them.

DNS Problems / Timeouts when surfing

We found a lot of processes tying up memory and causing high load on one of the caching servers.

We've killed these processes and things seemed to have got bettr so I'd appreciate any feedback before clearing service status.

DNS Problems / Timeouts when surfing

Hi anderson18,

Having a look at your account, you have interleaving turned on so this will generally add 20-30ms to the ping times.

The pings are not too bad and it is more than likely that the routers are busy at the moment and as ping traffic is the lowest priority, this can give higher pings than normal.

I would advise monitoring this and give us a shout back if it gets any worse.

DNS Problems / Timeouts when surfing

Hi,

I know I am adding to this thread when it is a couple of days old but I am having exactly the same problems with timeouts too. Reguarly I am unable to access websites at first attempt and this is happening more often too. When I do a speed test via the sites recommended there are no problems.

212.159.6.9 is the only nslookup that times out (sorry about the terminolgy - bit of a luddite!).

Are timeouts and speed tests a different kettle of fish?

Appreciate your advice.

Dave
