Connection speed is very disappointing

I’ve recently upgraded to “up to” 8meg.

I understand that its unlikely for me to get any where near 8meg in reality, however I had hoped for at least over 2meg.

At this point in time I’m lucky if I can get over 1.5meg.

Any suggestions would be very welcome!

It's looking like exchange contention. Your profiled at our and BTs end at 8Mbps.

Can you try a speed test during non peak hours and see if you notice any improvements in speed?

Actually one more thing, have you rebooted your router since you were upgraded?

Connection speed is very disappointing

Have tried speed tests late at night and early in the morning before thinking that I might see some difference but its always very slight if any.

Have also rebooted the router several times, including today because I was updating its firmware lol.

Just got this from http://speedtester.bt.com/

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4924 kbps

Any ideas?

What do you get using this one?

The official PlusNet speedtest is a touch on the flaky side.

For the first one
Download Speed: 1737 kbps (217.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 362 kbps (45.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

and for the second
1473 kbps (184.1 KB/s)
373 kbps (46.6 KB/s)

Thanks for your help by the way!

That's odd. I'm surprising that the difference on the BT Speedtest is quite so different to the others.

I'll try resetting your profile at this end. I've double checked your Ellacoya profile and it's definitely as it should be. Can you try rebooting in about ten minutes time?

Random. Can you do me a favour and raise a ticket with various BT and non-BT speed test results and I'll pass it through to Networks to investigate.

It's definitely quite strange.

Hi,

Can you run this test for me please and post back the result URL?

http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks

I've seen a few similar posts to this and I think y doing some tweaks it's fixable, the above test should show certain results to see if it fits into the pattern.

If you go to http://help.plus.net you can "raise a ticket".

It's the way you contact our Support Team, when you're not phoning them.

Eh? Are you saying that you go to DSLReports when you try going to http://help.plus.net?
