Connection Speed and P2P

Hi,

My connection speed is currently 1mb, however when I check the BT link provided by James in one of the other threads it says I should be getting speeds of up to 8mb. I'm only getting 1mb for a reason or do I need to request an upgrade from somewhere?

Also, I've just started trying some P2P, but i can only get speeds of up to about 12kbs. I'm fairly sure I've forwarded my ports correctly. Is this normal?

BTW I'm on Plus having downgraded from Premier recently.

Thanks

You're on a fixed rate 1mbps product. If you raise a ticket, I'm perfectly happy to place a manual order for you.

Plus is the worst product for p2p, though premier isnt much better. Schedule downloads for overnight if you can.

Thanks James, knew nothing about this, but I've raised the order via the link in your post. Cheers.

Any comment on the P2P question? Will the increase to (up to) 8mb help, or is it bottle necking elsewhere? Should I be trying after 11pm?

If you are Plus you will see poor P2P speeds nearly all the time except overnight. If you want better P2P speeds the only product that gives that is PAYG.

Hi,

I've placed the order for you now and replied to your ticket.

As other have said, PAYG will offer the best experience for P2P as you are paying for the traffic that you use.

BB+ is not designed for P2P use.

Think I'll upgrade to PAYG then. Can I check a few assumptions before I do....
- I get a 2gb allowance included, plus all activity 12-8am is also free?
- I can change back in a month if I choose (although some additional costs may apply depending on when exactly I change)
- It doesn't effect my monthly contract?

Cheers all

Connection Speed and P2P

Following the above posts....

Just got back from work, and tested my internet connection, and it's still pretty slow - 0.6mb!!

I've run the BT test with the following results..
IP profile for your line is - 6000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)7424 bps (DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4890 kbps

Is it just a case of rebooting my router every day, and waiting for the speed to rise, or do I need to do something else?

Cheers?

Hi,

Looks like the change hasn't filtered through all the various databases yet. I've updated the speed profile our side, give the router a reboot and see if the change I've made makes a difference.

It went through the speed test at 6.30 at about 2mb, but is now back down to 1mb. I've tried a couple of reboots

Could just be local exchange side contention, I'd suggest testing it again off peak and see if it's any faster then.

Tried it again last night with no improvement. Unplugged my router and went to bed. I've now plugged it back in, and rebooted the router, and I can't get above 500k.

Can someone please look at this please, as this is worse than when I had a 1mb connection?Huh
