Connection Sharing

Hi,

I have been using Internet Connection Sharing on Windows XP, firewalled via ZoneAlarm PRO, quite sucessfully up until now.

However, this evening I simply cannot get the Internet to work on a second computer, although it works fine on the Gateway computer.

Also, I can get the sharing to work using a connection to Freeserve.

Therefore, I would like to know if PlusNet have made any changes so that sharing no longer works?

Regards,

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

We have not changed any settings here at PlusNet, any we did change would not affect you in this way. Please ensure that you have all the correct connection settings listed on our portal. This should help if the connection is poor, however it sounds like a sharing issue to me.

Please let me know if I can help you further.

Regards,

Dave

RE: Connection Sharing

Hi,

Thanks for your help. I managed to resolve the problem.

However another issue I have disovered this evening is one of several websites not functioning on a PlusNet connection. At the moment I can give two examples, http://www.redimps.co.uk which is the address of Lincoln City Football Club and another which is http://www.ignite.com/uk and this is a BT website, also accessible via http://www.bt.net

Are you aware with any backbone issues this evening?

Once again your help is appreciated.

RE: Connection Sharing

Possible reason is that the DNS servers that the second computer is using dosent allow requests outside of a specific ip pool. Hence the reason it works wiv soms ISP's and some not.

when connected to plus net. on the second comp type http://212.159.8.137 in the browser

If plus net pages comes up when using the ip but not www.plus.net then its a simple DNS problem.

Tell your connection sharing program or manually configure the DNS's on the second comp to use 212.159.11.150 or 212.159.13.150 as your DNS servers.

Hope that solves it.

RE: Connection Sharing

Thanks for the help Gary,

As mentioned I have now managed to resolve the firewall issues, just the fact now that I cannot get onto some websites,

So any PlusNet users wishing to try the sites mentioned in my previous post, please do and let me know, as these seem to be ok on other connections.

Thanks,

Stephen

Hello again Stephen,

I have tried the URLs you have given above and found no problems. The sites loaded quickly and I am using the same connection as you are. Please ensure that you have cleared your temp internet files, this should help.

Dave
