Can you get plusnet email on your mobile phone?

Hi,

I've got a new mobile phone (Samsung D500) on a contract with o2. I can receive/view email which has been sent to my o2 email account on my mobile phone, can I do the same thing with plusnet mail? Does anybody do this?

I've done this on my Vodafone Motorla V525.

The way I did it was setup like a dialup connection to get the mail. Eg Phone dials the PlusNet number then does a pop3 transfer to download the messages.

This way is slow (non-GPRS) and can be expensive - mine came out of my free mins.

The best way would to be install a WAP to MAIL (pop3) scripts on yuor CGI webspace. Eg You use yuor O2's Intenet connection (O2 Active?? IS Vodafone live for me) then got yuor cgi webspace and run the script (Web app) that connects to your mail box.)

I was looking into this - but never got round to doing it. Take a look on www.hotscripts.com for PHP/CGI Apps. http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/WAP_and_WML/index.html

If your phone does GPRS and IMAP then it should be no trouble at all.

Can you get plusnet email on your mobile phone?

Cool answers, I'm getting exciting!

The phone does IMAP4 and connects via GPRS.

Is the IMAP4 server the same as the POP server - mail.plus.net?
Is the IMAP4 port 143?
Is the SMTP server relay.plus.net?
is the SMTP port 25?

Sorry for all of the questions!

The IMAP server is imap.plus.net, port is 143. SMTP is as you have listed it.

Damn, with those settings it says "email server access error". Do you think it's because I'm trying to connect to a non-o2 server using o2's WAP GPRS? Is it possible o2 will be pesky and only allow access to its own email server?

You'll need to use the o2 internet (mobile web) gprs settings. I think http://www.o2.co.uk/ should be able to send them to you. WAP settings are more restrictive in the access that's available.

If it's like my set up with orange, I think all emails sent from my phone have to go via the orange smtp server, but I connect to pop.plus.net to retrieve messages.

I'm connecting using the o2 GPRS settings but I've just found out I can only access email from o2, BT Interet, Talk21 and yahoo. Is it possible to forward my plusnet email to my o2 email account whilst I am away?
