Your High-speed Broadband Service

Your current broadband speed is 5500 Kbps (varies between 5500 and 6500)

I'm 1.3 km from my exchange (Sheffield Broomhill). It's been red for a few weeks which it why I've not raised this before. It's now green and there's no real improvement.

The actual speeds I'm getting (measured by Bandwidth monitor) are best reflected by Plusnet's own tester.

I'd be happy to be getting the 4000kps that BTs tester suggests I should at least sometimes.

Cheers

Can anyone check out these speed stats.....

Have you tried Speedtest.bbmax and Speedtest.net

The amsterdam server on bbmax is more responsive at the min, so I have heard.

Oddness. You're profiled correctly at this end.

Try the other speed testers as suggested and see if you get closer to the value shown on the BT Speedtest.

I suppose you could try the old BT speedtest, although it dosnt work for alot of people now, but its maybe worth a try, to see what you get off the PN network.

Many thanks for your help, hesketh14 (and James), but what will further speed tests tell us?

My actual downloads, best speeds, are substantially less than my sync and stable rates suggest I should be able to get, and also less than BTs speedtester.

If kitz's test give higher or lower speeds, what will we have learned?

Cheers,

There have been a couple of people recently where the speeds are being limited by poor MTU and RWIN settings. Have you checked these out?

The tweak test at http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks will check your settings and make recommendations. It also has Dr TCP which is a tool for making changing these settings easy.
