CRC and HEC Errors

Quote
Hi Jill,

At my 2 latest properties, both of these have been set a BRAS rate (that's the BT speed restriction) of 8128kbps.

At neither of them have I ever seen speeds of higher than 4mbps. My my own reckoning, you need to be within 1km of your exchange, and everyone in the town needs to be asleep with their routers and modems disconnected to get 8mbps speeds!

Why am I getting CRC error and HEC errors what do the mean? As you can see noise on the line is very very low!!!

My BT exchange is a cross the road from me. The router is the only thing on the line i.e no filters no fax no sky no voice calls etc My line length is 350 feet. I live in a very rural village and if I do a BT speedtest at 3.00am it has never been over 4.5mg and has been lower than 1.5mg. Contention issues are not a problem with BT speed test because it’s on their internal network.

My router stats are below

Uptime: 12 days, 1:38:44
Modulation: G.992.1 Annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 8,128Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/GB]: 509.92 / 5.51
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11.5 / 9.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 3.0 / 3.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 18.0 / 11.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ALCB
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 300 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 308
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 153

CRC and HEC Errors

Hi, just noticed something on that which doesnt seem right:

Modulation: G.992.1 Annex A

From memory, Modulation should be G.DMT, I could be wrong though.

Just done a quick check of my router and can confirm it is GDMT on mine.

Regards, Colin.

Just changed my modem to MMODE from GDMT and got a better speed test, increased from 1100 to 1800, thought I would let you know.
