Browser affects Speed Test?

I might be stating something blindingly obvious or stupid or both, but my PN SpeedTest varies wildly, and consistently, according to which browser I use
I repeated several times and it always comes out pretty much like this -

IE -----------1900 kbps
Firefox -----1800 kbps
Avant--------1500 kbps
Opera-------800kbps

btw firewall on/off and AVG on/off makes no difference

Browser affects Speed Test?

Just done a quick test and Firefox gave 1015.4 followed by IE6 gave 1046.7 and finally Firefox again 1030.9 and all of which are very good for a 1MB connection and I don't think the variation is significant

Browser affects Speed Test?

Other factors such as time of day, network traffic, load on speedtest server are likely to have more effect than which browser you use.

Out of interest, why do you use so many browsers anyway?

Browser affects Speed Test?

FWIW I have also experienced the same issue; Speed tests using Opera 8.51are always much slower on my BB+ 2MB account.
I use Opera all the time but got worried when I saw the slow tests, so checked using FF and IE6.
I'm guessing it's an issue around how Opera have implemented their Java(script), and I think also how it spills to disk. I also noticed the size of the test file is always much smaller with Opera.
I logged it as an issue with PN support, they however professed complete ignorance and disinterest, which seemed a shame. However I have seen similar reports on other message boards around the web. I logged it with Opera too and have received no reply either.
Be interesting to know what version of Opera seventhstar is using that s/he gets "normal" speeds ?

Two of the tests today were FF and two IE (plus the blot which was IE).

Somethings gone wrong - router is still synced at 2272.

Well My prefered browser is Opera (It just rox), however sometimes I need to use IE for sites containing activeX that I want to allow. As for FireFox, well seeing as so many peeps rave about it I had to give it a shot eh. Defo still prefer Opera though. Smiley
