Bridge card Game from http://www.bridgebase.com/

Is any one else on +net unable to play interactive bridge from http://www.bridgebase.com/ at peek times. Is +net blocking the port 9999 in the speed managment software or what is happening. I have used other isps and have not had any problems at all with this software and game. The traffic is very small over the net to play this game.

I presume you already read this and ruled it out?

May be useful for the netowrk guys to know that its TCP on 9999 too. (Sorry no other ideas though...)

The most likely cause of this is that something is blocking BBO from connecting to the Internet.
Many PCs run antivirus software from Norton and the like. These antivirus programs often include a "personal firewall" and this firewall is probably blocking BBO. To resolve this, you need to instruct your firewall to allow "c:\bridge base online\netbridgevu.exe" to access the internet. Email us if you like, and tell us what antivirus product you are using. Or better, contact your antivirus company and tell them that you need instructions on how to allow a newly-installed program to connect to the Internet.
Many corporate environments don't allow desktop programs to make direct connections to the Internet. You'll have to talk to your network guy. BBO makes a single outbound connection on TCP port 9999 to bbo.bridgebase.com

Bridge card Game from http://www.bridgebase.com/

Hi tiffer -

I'm finding a pattern now....

"upgraded" to Max about a week ago (BB+ btw)
Speeds were terrible in the evining - simply couldn't connect to either OKBridge or BBO, and stayed at my old 2M during the day (sync was 5500-6500k, but download speed always under 2M) I had come to the conclusion that the problem was "throttling", and that whatever ports these two use was being throttled to the extent that I simply couldn't communicate with the servers fast enough during peak times - was being timed-out, in fact.

A couple of days ago, my "max stable rate" jumped from 2M to 6.5M.
With it came a terrific increase in speed, and I can download (via http, off peak) quite well.
Also, without changing anything at all in the client programs, I was able to connect to both sites.

HOWEVER, I now have another strange problem.
My speed (speed test results) start at about 4200/360 when I connect the router, but over a period of 20-30 minutes, gradually fall, way down to maybe 350/360, and then it disconnects.

Re-cycle (power cycle) the router, and back we go, to repeat the cycle!
While speed is low, can't log into the bridge sites. When speed is high, no problem! It's as though my connection dies slowly.....
Is it strange, or is it strange?:-)

Ideas anybody?

Hi Kenrogers,

I have had no problem connecting to the servers during off peak times on +net only at peak times. I have used my same setup (Laptop)for playing bridge as an experiment on other ISP adsl broadbands at all times of the day and night and have no problems.
I have come to the conclusuon that it is a +plus net problem with the "throttling" of the network that is causeing it.
I have raised a ticket with +net on this and am awaiting a reply.

I am petermoo on BBO.I have been unable to connect from home, properly, for 2 weeks. I was able to play with the same computer without any problems when I was in Nairobi.
Go to search then type in game. I have a thread running about the same issue. There is a very comprhensive thread about traffic management. I have raised a tciket but plusnet have not replied to it. I am planning to phone them soon. I am a premier broadband customer on a green exchange at 2mb.
FWIW the description of premier on the plusnet front page is "perfect for gaming". I am unable to play bridge at all and there are a lot of us in a similar position.
My understanding is that plusnet is woefully short of capacity so has decided to kill off gamers. (there would be a very cross smiley here but plusnet don'r run to those)

Hi I am tiffer on bbo,

Just come back from Malaga and I had no problem with BBO from there. Found your forum on this, and have contributed.
