BitTorrent speeds

Ive read a few of the other posts in this forum, however can anyone tell me what port i should use (or recommend) to download at a respectable speed?
It usually hovers from 10kb-20kb (days and evenings) which is pathetic-my 512 connection with my last provider was much faster than this.

Im on the 2mb Plus account by way

Thanks

You will never get decent P2P speeds on the plus account.
You will need to upgrade to Premier £21.99, otherwise the speeds you are currently getting are the best you will see.

If that is true then why do some users on the Premier account still have a moan about this too? From what ive read on the forum its not much better on the premier account

That for the premier account is terrible!!!!

Shame on PN...even NTL 1mb connection i know people who get 100k+ with ease! and thats anytime during the day. If i could get cable in my area i would nt be using PN

If you're on Premier and not getting good P2P speeds, then it's probably either your setup (firewall, using default ports which some sites but not Pn block, ports not forwarded correctly), or there aren't enough seeds on the thing you're downloading.
I have noticed Dave say on the forums that the occasional Premier account has been wrongly configured(?) and Pn have reset it to allow P2P OK. But this is the least likely option.

I get 200kB and over on a decent Azureus download.
If you're on Premier, try this test torrent which has loads of seeds and should give you the best speed.

On Azureus, or any other, don't use the default ports or any nearby - add 20,000 or so to the default and you should be OK.

i have just downloaded a 400Mb file p2p at a constant 220Kb/s, to be honest i have never seen any p2p speed decresae that i can blame PN for, the very nature of torrents means they can be unreliable for a speed test.

BB+ is crap for p2p, it is constently heavly throttled and advertised as such, upgrade to prem if you want any chance of maxing your connection with torrents

Geoff ,
for azureus ive got port 6881 for the Incoming TCP listen port

what do you have?

Also when you said add 1000 or so onto port settings...where exactly in the Azureus settings have you made these changes.

I use 26881 - it's easy to remember and far away from the default.
Go to Azureus Tools Configuration Wizard and set it in there.
You can also test that your port is open OK on the same page, and if it comes back OK, then you're set up right.
Ifr it doesn't you're not.

ps I can't seem to shorten the url of the test torrent in my post above.
This is it: here
