Bandwidth Usage email?? I dont understand.

I am on the Plus Net original 20:1 Variant account and I pay £49.99 per month. I thought this gave me around 60GB of Peak Bandwidth usage?

I just got this email.

"Your peak-time usage for this billing month just exceeded 8GB.

Although this is not more than your allowance, we wanted to make you aware of light restrictions to your connection speeds that come into force should you reach 10GB. These restrictions help you to stay within your allowance, and ensure that all customers receive the best possible quality of service."

Eh?

sort it plusnet - SUP web infois totally contradictory

Sad
Shaggy has got it right - PN seems to be sending everyone something about an 8GB warning - even when they have much higher limits. Mine is Premier 1 and is supposed to be 30GB with a warning at 24GB.

The web info from the PN homepage leads you to a table which gives these higher (correct) figures.

BUT the info you get when you follow the 8GB e-mail link takes you where it says that 10GB is the limit, with a warning at 8GB BUT these figures are supposed to relate to the low level PN "Plus" option.

Someone at Plusnet has cocked the whole thing up. Everyone may as well migrate to the cheap option rather than paying for a service which is not being provided.

PLEASE SORT IT OUT SOON PLUSNET

Bandwidth Usage email?? I dont understand.

You are confusing the traffic management emails and the SUP emails which are two different warnings. Yes, your ccount as a peak time limit of 30GB but traffic management starts much earlier.

See http://usergroup.plus.net/sup_calc.php

Traffic management starts at 10GB with a warning at 80% i.e. 8GB before any management is applied. This is different to the SUP limits for your account as detailed here where warning emails about exceeding the SUP peak time limits are sent when reaching 24GB during peak times. Exceeding your peak time SUP twice imposes further restrictions until you upgrade your product.

Bandwidth Usage email?? I dont understand.

I was placed on level 2 management last month at 12.5Gb, even though my account is premier 2. I raised a ticket and was all but told I was lying. It said on my vmbu page that level 2 management had been applied (although I didn't get any e-mail warning) Surelt this was incorrectly managed?

This was a couple of days before my billing date and I lost 2 good peak-time download days for no reason.

Dave...happy with the service...so far...

Sorry for my ignornance, but I am not understanding the SUP vs BW usage.

My question is I pay £49.99 per month, are you telling me that I will be managed i.e. have my Speed throttles after I reach 10G and not 60G?

I think Peter's reply was directed at thehttc3.

I would have expected that your management should have started at 20GB with the first warning at 80% of that.

How much bandwidth had you used when you got the email?

Shockedops:

As you say, "Confusion" is the word.

I am not at all computer literate so...................

having looked again at the "confusing" (to a mere mortal) PN web info, it refers to various uses being "choked" (my word) as useage increases beyond 10GB.

What are these uses?

P2P??
Usenet?
File transfer applications?

I only use the internet for surfing and e-mailing - are these uses choked?

My kids download music and videos and talk to friends and use something called Myspace - are these choked?

If anyone answers this (Peter Vaughan?) can they copy and paste this text and put their answers in italic (or other distinguishable text) after each question. his will help me fathom out what answer relates to what question ;0))

Is there an ISP who really does not limit useage?Huh

I'd say they are managing your account as an equivalent of Premier 1 not Premier 3 which I would have expected according to what you are paying.

I suggest you open a question asking which should apply to your account.

You might also like to PM Mand to ask her to sort it out.

@ thehttc3hope this helps

all of the above uses are things used to download music, movies, porn, games etc from the internet, it'll be how your kids get the music etc.

This is a very general and sweeping statement and I don't want all the 'linux iso' crew jumping up and down, i'm being general to keep it simple and relevant to the questions asked in this particualr case. I'm fully aware of the other more legit uses of these protocols but it's unlikely his kids are using them!!!

No! Your kids music will come down slower thats about it. Your surfing and email won't be effected.

My kids download music and videos and talk to friends and use something called Myspace - are these choked?

Anything the kids download will be slowed down, it's thse downloads that are using large amounts of usage and it's this that plusnet want to control

If anyone answers this (Peter Vaughan?) can they copy and paste this text and put their answers in italic (or other distinguishable text) after each question. his will help me fathom out what answer relates to what question ;0))

done, allthough i'm not peter vaughn!!

Is there an ISP who really does not limit useage??

a few, allthough for truly unlimited at this moment you have to live on an exchange where operators like Be and bulldog own their own equipment or pay a LOT of money

Hope this helps.

Whereas that is correct that ftp/p2p and usenet will be slower, unforunatly, after hitting the threasholds, EVERYTHING is slowed down to the speeds below (PEAK TIME ONLY 4pm-midnight):-

(Assuming Premier Option1)

After 10Gb - ftp/p2p/usenet at 256Kbps - Everything else 2Mb speeds
After 12.5Gb - ftp/p2p/usenet at 128kbps - Everything else 1Mb speeds
After 15Gb - ftp/p2p/usenet BLOCKED - Everything else 512Kbs

After 30Gb ftp/p2p/usenet are BLOCKED *AND* all other speeds will be at 128kbpos. This will apply to BOTH on and off peak times until the end of the billing date.
If you go past 30Gb peak useage in two months you will be on 128kbps until you either leave or upgrade to an account that better suits your usage.
