BT Speed Tests & Modem Stats

Like many others here at Plusnet, I’m having speed issues. I’ve rasied a ticket 20763975 regarding the problem, and now we seem to be going full circle. So I’ve come here for help.

I was upgraded to MAX DSL over 2 months a go, and since then I haven’t seen any speed increase from my previous 2MB speed. It seems all the test and modem stats say that there’s nothing wrong with my line, and I should be getting at least 5MB+ speeds.

Can someone take a look at my stats and maybe see if I’m missing something??

Modem Stats:

Downstream/Upstream
SNR Margin 13.8/26.0 dB
Line Attenuation 20.4/12.0 dB

There are currently no known capacity problems on your exchange. There may still be an exchange problem, however BT are not currently reporting that they are aware of it. Please contact Support if you are having speed problems, who can advise further.

Has anyone got any suggestion as to why I’m not seeing greater than 2MB speeds, I’ve done tests day and night and all of then suggest that I’m stuck on 2MB?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Darren

Can you run a test using this tester using the London server.

Then post back using the forum link for the results.

Thanks for the reply elvin.

I'm at work at the moment, so i can't run the test now.
I do use that site reguarly, ever since i was upgraded in fact.

I've done many, many tests night and day, and no matter when i do it i never see anything greater that around 2300k. It just gets to the same point and never goes higher.

I'll show a selection of results when i get home.

Do you run the test from a PC that uses a Wifi connection to your router? What is the MTU setting on your router?

Good point - I forgot about that one! I had a friend who's laptop was only getting half the speed of a wired PC.

Set the router MTU to 1500 and speeds doubled.

Like i say, i'm at work....going by memory i think my MTU setting is around 1450 or something, and the other setting is at 1390.

I'll try out the new setting when i get home....Hopefully this is the answer to my problems.

I'll report back later.

Thanks.

Well, i said i'd report back!!

I'm pleased to say that changing my modem settings has done the trick.

I changed my MTU too 1500 and my Rwin to 84300 and now i'm getting speeds like this.

Maybe with a bit more tweaking i might get better speeds.

Thanks for the help guys.

Happy days Cheesy
