BBC Multicast

It is not officially release but still in Beta testing.

That site should not have included PlusNet yet.

It's still in Beta at the BBC, let alone PlusNet.

The main problem with multicast, is the lack of support in many routers.

It doesn't work for most PlusNet customers either, as it isn't open to the whole customerbase.

It is currently on a closed trial, to see what range of routers and modems work.

Hi,

If you want to let me know what ADSL hardware you're using, I can see if they've already been tried and if not see if Bob can get you on the trial.

Anyone which has a Netgear DG834 can not use Muiltcast. The Current Firmware does not support it at present.

Netgear may support this in a future release.

Hi,

If the DG834 does not support this, what does?

I was looking to change soon, however i do prefer netgear routers, is their any netgear one which support this, or any other brands?

cheers jeremy.

There have been many requests to netgear for their routers to support IGMP but it looks like they are not going to implement it now due to lack of funds for development.

All USB modems should work

Routers that are known to work or have had it working so far are:

sar110 / sar 130 (should work the same as 110)
d-link dsl-504
Voyager 240
Voyager 205
Voyager 2100 (although some users report they cannot get it working)
Zoom X5v
cisco 837 (but does not work 100% of the time)

Which means pretty much most of the mainstream and popular routers don't work including:

Netgear DG814 / 834 / 834G / 834GT / 634
DrayTek Vigor 2600 range
Belkin F5D7630
D-Link DSL604+

so if all usb modems work do we still have to be in the trial to actually get a multicast connection?

Yes.

But as there have been many USB users already included it is only new routers that are wanted for the trial.
