Astraweb ping

Is anyone else getting a shocking ping from Astraweb? My latency is almost 3 seconds.

Astraweb ping

Sorry, I didn't mention what it is. It's a USENET server.

Astraweb ping

Well the tool at dnsstuff isn't doing it through the plusnet network. What happens if YOU do it in a cmd box?

Start -> Run -> Type "cmd" -> Type "ping pbdl.news...."

been the same for the last couple of days at any time except for a few hours in the early hours (gmt)

Even at 7am this morning my dl speeds from astraweb were crawling at about 10kbps compared to the ~500kbps i was getting off peak a week or so back...

The torrent i am dl'ing at the mo (22 seeds and 45 peers) is crawling at 5.5kbps, im used to seeing around 40-50kbps....
Every thing including text newsgroup access is crap at the mo, you can prove this by posting via your news server EG: astraweb and then doing the same via google groups, the astraweb post takes an age to show up and reading other posts is painfully slow, posting and reading via google groups is still fine..........I have also verified this with other dedicated usenet servers (other than astraweb) and get the same result Evil

A tracert shows the congestion at the final hop. Perhaps Astraweb's network is shagged?

Astraweb ping

Usenet is in the lowest priority for premier.

Yeah, but a ping is not USENET traffic.

Are plusnet up to something here?

Here's a ping log for Giganews (same latency):

Pinging news.giganews.com [216.196.109.131] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 216.196.109.131: bytes=32 time=2884ms TTL=115

But here's another log done via BT broadband:

Pinging news.giganews.com [216.196.109.131] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 216.196.109.131: bytes=32 time=88ms TTL=94

Reply from 216.196.109.131: bytes=32 time=88ms TTL=94

The ping to Astraweb over BT broadband is 200ish.
