Are there issues with P2P connections?

Whenever I try to make a p2p connection, the download speed seems fixed at between 4-10kps no matter how strong the connection is. I've only been with plusnet for a couple of weeks and I have a fast 5mbps connection (600-650kps general download speed). Prior to this, with my previous isp, strong connections via p2p would be as fast as they were able (well over 100kps). Any ideas why I should be getting such slow downloads?

Are there issues with P2P connections?

We need more details to help.
What Plusnet package are you on?
What client do you use?
Do you have encryption enabled?
What times of day does this happen?
Are your ports correctly forwarded?
Are you using the default ports?
What sites are you using and how many seeds/leechers when it is slow?

Are there issues with P2P connections?

I'm a Mac user and use both Limewire and acquisition for general p2p, and xtorrent for .... torrents.

I'm on Plusnet package premier 1.

I am using the default ports but have never had any problems before.

The router's firewall is always disabled, as we need only rely on the Mac's in built defences. But then, if a firewall was interfering then surely it would stop all traffic not merely restrict it?

Are my ports correctly forwarded? I don't know what that means but nothing has been changed since signing up to plusnet.

*edited 27th* Seems to be much better today - can't explain it.
