Anyone actually getting anywhere near 8mb/6mb??

Anyone actually getting anywhere near 8mb/6mb??

Noticed that my line speed had increased on Monday (10 days after my router had shown 8mb sync...)... but not quite what I was expecting...!!!

I had read that in real terms an 8mb (8192kbit or 1024kbyte) connection was actually providng around 6mb speed, according to the trials that were undertaken... ok, I thought, I can live with that!!

However, I have not really noticed my speed going over 500kbytes, whis is approx 4mbit. I was expecting to be averaging at around 700kbits (6mb). I know other factors need tobe considered, but as I live about 200m from the exchange, I was rather hoping for a better than average connection!!!

Anyone else getting below par speedsHuh Is this the norm? Is the 8mb or 6mb just a burst/peak speedHuh

If you're achieving 500KB at peak times, then you should consider yourself extremely lucky indeed; wait until the majority of users have Max.

According to members of other (better quality) ISPs, they are getting around the same, or less.

Also, 500KB off peak is quite acceptable. Soon you'll be sharing your exchange with dozens of others syncing at faster than 2Mb, with no extra BT backhaul added. You have that to look forward to.

It's all down to the ratio if your on 50:1 ratio theres going to be alot more traffic than a 20:1 ratio connection.

you want quality you have to spend the doe ray me.

What type of account have you got/has it changed over to the new accounts yet?

Our account is "Business Premier up to 4Mb" and although the line syncs at 8128, downloads flatline at 4Mb.

PN say it's difficult to say whether this is down to the settle in period (I'm only on day 3) or because of the account type being limited to 4Mb.

What they have said is that even after the 10 day period (21st) I will only get 4Mb due to the account type however on the account billing date (23rd) it will be changed over to the new account type, "Business Option 2 - up to 16Mb" and the 4Mb restriction applied by PN will be removed.

I was on the Premier 2mb package, but paid the £14.99 regrade fee (when it was available).. as of 1st April, my account said Option 1, and my router has a sync of 8192 down, and 448 up. It was only after 10 days that I noticed an increase in speed, albeit to around 4mb. Whilst this is great, and Im not complaining, I was expecting around 6mb.

I believe the ratio is the same 30:1 that was on the Prem 2mb, as I queried this before I opted for the regrade.

Im more than happy with th eincrease I have, but was just expecting alittle more, from what I have read, and been told... but time will tell!!!!

I have just been regraded to 8Mb, but I'm lucky if I stay connected and when I do I get 25% connection speeds compared to what I had before regrade.

According to all the ADSL checkers they say I should get between 6.5 and 7.5 Mb. Actual distance from exchange as crow flies 800m, as cable route 1000m
