ADSL Contract Period

Could someone please let me know the minimum contract period for the self install ADSL.

As with everything I guess it's gonna be another 12 month one, which causes real problems for people like me who move every 6 - 12 months.

Any advice welcomed !

RE: ADSL Contract Period

Hi Duncan,

I'm 99.9% certain that the contract period across the range of Self Install packages will be on an annual basis. I will raise the question internally just to be on the safe side and post back later.

RE: ADSL Contract Period

Hi support,
I'm wondering why there is an annual contract.. I see from http://www.adslguide.org.uk that other ISPs (although a substantial amount more in price), have contracts that are 6 months long, or even 3.

RE: ADSL Contract Period

Hi,

I can confirm that there is indeed an annual limit on all Self Install packages.

With regards to other ISP's only requiring 6/3 months contract I assume this is a clever sales angle. It may sound great that they only offer a 3 month contract but at the end of the day they will be making the same amount of money wether they offer a years contract or not. Hiking up the monthly costs to the end user is a way to make sure they get the maximum amount of revenue over such a short contract period. This is something that we are not prepared to do.

RE: ADSL Contract Period

... But as has been seen before (when BT anounced the DIY install), the ISP's are not tied to a year contract with BT (I think) so why do 'we' have to have a years contract with an ISP?. I assumed the £50 set-up fee was to enable short term contracts by in affect subsidising the lower monthly charges.

Could you possibly find out what could be done if I was to request a dis/reconnection at a new address during the first 12 months. Obviously I will remain a customer of PlusNet, so am I tied to any contract with BT?

thanks

RE: ADSL Contract Period

Hi Guys,

I've now made further checks and can tell you that....

Business customers will be offered a one months trial period. After that period they will be tied to an annual contract.

Residential users (non business use) will be tied only to a 30 day contract.

I hope this clarifies things for you.

Dean, thanks for the quick reply. Almost makes it worthwhile sitting here at work hammering the refresh button!

Anyway good news about the 30 day contract, look forward to when the service launches.
