ADSL Bandwidth

Hi Are you going to place bandwidth restrictions on ADSL accounts?

Similar to those placed on connect customers.
I cant find any info on your faq
on this subject

Thanks Mike

RE: ADSL Bandwidth

I believe you are misunderstanding the bandwidth allocations. These are purely for your webspace. Your dial up is not restricted in anyway to the amount of data you can transmit/receive.

Kind Regards

RE: ADSL Bandwidth

Hmmm No
So perhaps I should use the term throughput ??
So if I want to download
3 giga byte a day etc.
From reading the tech press on adsl the problem is as soon
as everyone has high download upload speeds and always on then they use the bandwidth allocated to them.
I am sure there would be a law about this similar to boyl's law Huh
But if you have no restrictions then that’s fine!!
It must be a BT thing I hope they have the power not to mess it up
With all the new users on adsl !!!

Regards Mike

I'm sure there are many others, but Plus Net is the only ISP I know of that does NOT have throuhput limitations. BT's ISP, and Freeserve, Virgin, etc.. all their DialUp and ADSL services have resrictions, you mass download and you get a nausty letter telling you to cut down.

And we all know what we want to reply to that.

RE: ADSL Bandwidth

We do not have any plans for bandwidth capping or policing on our ADSL services. We have more than enough capacity and have future planning in place, to keep our service to the excellent level it is now. All we do ask is that our users, use the bandwidth and their connection in a responsible manner.

Kind Regards

RE: ADSL Bandwidth

Speaking of bandwidth

I currently have my Adsl router set to always on as cant be bothered having to dial up all the time and i cant get the dial on demand working is this type of setup ok with Plusnet?

Obviously im not using it all the time so i assume im only taking up bandwidth when im downloading/uploading is this correct or have i as usual got the wrong end of the stick !

Hi Ali,

This is fine, ADSL customers are effectively on their own dedicated circuit so there is no problem staying connected all the time although you should be aware of the security implications of doing so if you are leaving your PC on as well as the router.

You are correct to say you are only using bandwidth when there is activity on your connection, i.e data being uploaded or downloaded.

Robert
