8 Meg Upgrade Progress Question

OK progress !!, this morning BT Speedtest showing:

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1796 kbps

What needs to happen for the Actual IP throughput to increase

Getting better, nice Poke Wink

Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4065 kbps

Can I expect the IP throughput to fluctuate for a while, and then stabilise

Strangely though, Ping speeds to bbc.co.uk, seem to have gone up from average 19/20ms to 35/36ms !!

Interleaving is turned on by default. This basically increases stability with a loss in latency. It can be removed if you need it to be.

Thanks James,

Been reading up on the Interleaving Pros and Cons on the Forum. Not into gaming, so I think I will leave it as is for now.

8 Meg Upgrade Progress Question

Can someone take another look at my settings. Since I upgraded to 8mb, I normally only get 2mb, 2.5mb at best (using namesco test). BT results....

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 4500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 5856 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3208 kbps

Strangely IP profile was 6mb when I requested the upgrade two weeks ago, and I've never seen speeds like the actual ip throughput above?

Cheers.

8 Meg Upgrade Progress Question

Hi,

The profile's set to 5000kbps on side, so that should be fine. The IP profile is the maximum throughput that your line will see, it's unlikely to ever be this high because of overheads and other factors. Probably 4000 - 4200kbps is nearer the maximum that you'll ever see, so a drop off of 800kbps from this isn't far off the mark and can easily be account for by exchange side contention kicking in. Does it get any higher overnight or early in a morning?

No it doesn't get any quicker even in the early hours of the morning.

You say a drop off of 800kbps, but I have never seen it higher than 2600kbps at any time, and I've been checking regularly.

8 Meg Upgrade Progress Question

The drop of 800kbps comment was based on the 3208kbps speedtest result you posted above. Out of interest what sort of modem/router do you have?

8 Meg Upgrade Progress Question

I was kind of hoping you were going to say it was Speedtouch 330 as there's a known problem on some of the old drivers for that a couple of other modems causing reduced speeds on Max. Unfortunately there's not an awful lot we can do in terms of raising it with BT because they wouldn't think it was a fault, it's strange that it doesn't go faster off peak which leads me to think that there may be something else at issue.

I don't think it's going to be the router, although would be interesting to see the result from a different modem/router, might be worth trying to tweak the connection a little. The following site's useful:
