2 mbit Speeds ?

Hi, I've just joined Plusnet after migrating from Pipex, yesterday was my first day. I'm using the 2mbit Premier package. Just a quick question, why are my download speeds so inconsistant ? Is this normal for Plusnet ? Below I've pasted some results from yesterday and this morning. :? All those tests have been done using the same RWIN and MTU. Thanks for any help. Ian

2 mbit Speeds ?

Hi,

May be a exchange problem.

Check your exchange at http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/

see the VP status - is this green?

2 mbit Speeds ?

HI Phil, the VP status on my exchange is green. I've just done 3 more speed tests. As you can see the speeds are all over the place. Is there anything I can do about this ? When I was with Pipex I had 2mbit for about a week before they throttled me back to 1mbit and the speeds were consistently fast but I wasnt prepared to pay their prices.

2 mbit Speeds ?

Are you doing BT speed tests? If not it may be worthwile as this will show if it is a PN or a BT problem.

Yip.

I've just done the BT test three times, here's the results:

Test 1: 892 kilo bits per second (Kbps)

Test 2: 757 kilo bits per second (Kbps)

Test 3: 899 kilo bits per second (Kbps)

2 mbit Speeds ?

If your are on 2MB it looks like a BT problem if you ring PN they will get you to do various trouble shooting things but I'm unsure if BT will actually do anything as 400kb/s is apparently o.k. for a 2MB connection.

Yes I'm on 2mbit, thanks for your help. I'll get onto customer support.

2 mbit Speeds ?

CS tell me BT won't do anything unless their speedtest results are below 400. I have to do the test 3 times throughout the day, including one after midnight.

Been told to scan for Viruses, Spyware etc.

ADSGuide: Taken at 17.19 & 17.23
Downstream 670 Kbps (83.8 KB/sec) 723 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Downstream 1379 Kbps (172.4 KB/sec) 1489 Kbps (inc. overheads)

To me these are not acceptable, whatever BT say, what are my options now ? BT won't do anything if not below 400, these speeds are slower than the Pipex 1mbit I had. Sad

I'm not sure, i kinda guessed this might happen BT seem to be a law unto themselves 400k for a 2mb/s connection who are they kidding - actually to me your speeds seem quite appealing but i'm on 512 and that is besides the point!

What I would do is report a fault to BT say the line is crackly or something and get them to investigate.... its odd when BT do "tests" that things "get better" !

When I lived in my previous address the engineer called round and then made sure I got a decent line!

Strange thing is, I never had any speed problems when I was with Pipex, so that surely shows my hardware is fine. When BT upgraded my line to 2mbit it was then throttled back by Pipex to 1mbit which took them about a week, so I had 2mbit for a week, and it worked great with excellent speeds. Anyway, I have the Plusnet 45 day guarantee if I'm not completely satisfied they will pay for me to leave, I can't beleive I'm talking about leaving when I only been with Plusnet 2 days :?

Lets hope things improve during the next few weeks. Smiley

Trouble is leaving won't make any difference to a BT problem. Have you checked your Virtual Paths status at usertools.plus.net/exchanges
