15.3Kbps [super slow] peak http speed

Is anyone else having trouble using the web during peak times? My connection is fine during off-peak but becomes unusable at peak, see the pn speed tests results below.

I've got a support ticket open but with it taking over 24 hours per reply, and the "tests" being run at off-peak times it seems rather pointless.

My exchange is green
I've download 7GB of data at peak this month
I'm pretty sure its plus.net limiting my connection, is there any way to test / prove this?

edit: I forgot to say I'm syncing at full speed and the IP profile for my line is - 7150 Kbps & pn stable rate 8000 Kbps

Have you run a BT Speedtest as per the sticky at the top of this forum?

Several times (although mostly the bt speed tester is too busy at peak times), ok off-peak (over 5000Kbps), rubbish at peak (below 400Kbps).

I can't see anything untoward at this end, there's nothing up with your profiling and there doesn't appear to be a generic contention issue at the exchange.

Could you possibly raise a fault?

I've done that also. All the tests we run off-peak and I was told everything seemed to be OK (probably because the problem only appears at peak times).

I'm pretty sure its traffic shaping related, is there any way you can turn if off for an evening [for my ip] and see if that solves the problem?

That's just it. I'm pretty sure it's not because all of your HTTP speed will be gold traffic, and we've not been seeing HTTP speed issues.

I would be inclined to think it were exchange related, although getting BT to do anything will be extremely difficult.

No harm in trying though? unless you've got another idea, like running the fault tests at peak time?

In the nicest way possible, with your usage over the last few months, that's really not going to happen Wink

I've not gone over my peak usage have I? also, I'm only asking you turn it off for an evening, I'll then waste even more of my time running more tests and then let you know if its any better. But, obviously if you've got a better idea I'm all ears...

You're right. It is management related. I've replied to your ticket.

"your account shows that your peak-time usage over the last month has been above the level for which your product was designed"

My peak usage for the last three months:
11.83GB
13.71GB
10.8GB
7.93GB (so far this month)

I understand the limit is 20GB/month peak, is that correct? if so, why am I being limited?

Because you went past 13GB.

Which indicates you are on a busy exchange and/or as james says, this could be a fault on your line, though we'd have thought any faults would affect you anytime of the day. So this is likely to be exchange contention.

What does it list on http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/ for your exchange?

That was for Oct -> Nov but even so "When the allowance is reached, peak-time downloading through these applications is blocked, until the customer's next billing date. Though most Internet activities like browsing and email remain available at fast speeds."

Browsing should still be upto 2Mb, but that was months ago so not really relevant.

I could understand that if I was constantly breaching the SUP that all my peak and even off peak usage would be limited but this isn't the case at all.

As above, the exchange is green. James has said above and in a reply to my ticket that I'm being restricted for using too much peak bandwidth this month (nearly 8GB)
