0808 vs 0845 the real difference (apart from cost)

What's the difference between how an 0808 call is processed and how an 0845 call is...

There seems to be some difference in how the 'modem' negotiates as the 0808 service seems to be far more intolerant of line conditions compared to the 0845 service.

If I understand correctly the 0808 'modem' is a sort of virtual modem set up by BT at the exchange whereas the 0845 service connects to racks of equipment owned by plusnet.

An 0845 call is routed like a normal and is terminated on a modem rack at PlusNet, we then pass you on to one of our core routers and out you go on to the internet.

An 0808 call is terminated at your exchange and passed to a modem at a local datacenter. You are then passed through the IP colossus network and piped to PlusNet. Next you are passed onto our core router and out you go to the internet.

Kind Regards
