uploading photo for forum profile

I have attempted to upload a photo into my forum profile. Initially all goes well! I click on browse which takes me to MY PICTURES, I select the photo, click on open and the photo description appears in the box alongside the browse button. In my emails I have an ADD button to tick but on the FORUM PROFILE the only tick able button is the change profile button. I tick this but my photo does not appear in the photo section on the right hand side! Help please!

I just tried it as per this picture and it seemed to work OK
How big is the picture and which file format are you using

Which picture type are you trying to upload?

Thanks OLDJIM and JAMES-G for your replies! I have now solved my problem. OLDJIM, you pointed me in the right direction when you asked the size of the photo. It had lots of detail and when I checked it was a massive 1.7M.  I selected another one at 696K  and this one was accepted .
