Re: Site Errors (Slow pages, slow posting, connection reset, uploads failing)

No, it is REALLY bad right now !,  with about 70% of forum page views failing in all the previously reported ways !
It even failed when I clicked the <Reply> tab to post this response, and I'm also expecting it to fail when I hit <Post>  Cry

Re: Site Errors (Slow pages, slow posting, connection reset, uploads failing)

@Anotherone - I see that frequently!
@Kelly - I don't want to throw rocks at the messenger, but why are you running with this?  Is this not a job for your networks team and vendor manager?  Or does the DCT / CRT do everything which might be useful around here ?

The Ops Team are working on this. I'm just coordinating feedback in because I want to get it sorted for you all.

@'Kelly' - but you have not answered what the Ops Team are working on !
Are they implementing some half-baked quick fix, like relocating the forum servers to avoid the load-balancers,
or
Are they actually aiming to fix the load-balancers so that all the affected services (forum, email, dns, speedtester, etc) ALL work properly ?

Kelly,
You are a busy fella, would there be benefit in asking one of the network guys to deal directly with this thread?  I note that Paul from the networks team is a regular on the forums.  Perhaps he could run with this and keep us all informed, thereby releasing you from the need to relay messages.

Re: Site Errors (Slow pages, slow posting, connection reset, uploads failing)

Furthermore
When is the forum going to get upgraded to the latest version, as i suspect that will alleviate some of the issue(s)
Last we heard, was that #Kelly was trying to make it a priority
Where is it on the list ?Huh
&
When will the Priority list that us as clients also have access to be updated, as there has been many a priority for quite a while now  ?Huh

Re: Site Errors (Slow pages, slow posting, connection reset, uploads failing)

I was going to say that the packets from 84.93.23?.??? hitting the router firewall seem to have stopped sometime today, but I encountered a short delay while waiting for this post to preview, then a load of them turned up again in the firewall log.
Today I have only seen packets from 84.93.230.186 (I have community.plus.net set to be only 212.159.9.110, so was expecting only 84.93.230.178 or 84.93.230.186), and in the evening, only from source port 44340 (caused by accessing the forums over https). After 07:45, none from source port 80 while or after browsing these forums over plain http.
Example:
IN=ppp0 OUT= MAC= SRC=84.93.230.186 DST=87.114.my.ip LEN=67 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x80 TTL=55 ID=57733 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=44340 DPT=16100 WINDOW=216 RES=0x00 ACK PSH URGP=0
PS as I said before, the DNS load balancer issues were 1. totally different and 2. fixed some time ago. I've just checked the traceroute to the dns servers (unfortunately I don't have any old traceroutes from a bng gateway to compare it with):
[tt]traceroute to 212.159.6.9 (212.159.6.9), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets
1  192.168.0.1 (192.168.0.1)  2.203 ms
2  lo0.11.central11.pcl-bng01.plus.net (195.166.130.139)  23.578 ms
3  irb.11.pcl-cr01.plus.net (84.93.249.97)  21.565 ms
4  po2.pcl-gw01.plus.net (195.166.129.41)  22.741 ms
5  cdns01.plus.net (212.159.6.9)  22.181 ms[/tt]

Last night I had a white screen after pressing post. It eventually disappeared and the post went through OK. This happened about 5 times.

Re: Site Errors (Slow pages, slow posting, connection reset, uploads failing)

These forum errors are happening so frequently now, with no apparent progress towards fixing them, that I'm going to stop complaining because I'm clearly just wasting my time doing so.
I would happily provide my firewall logs to test load-balancer experimental configuration changes, but we have seen NOTHING being attempted to resolve this in recent weeks,  and no suggestion that we are ANY closer to a solution.
If this continues for much longer I will give up visiting this forum because at times it has become immensely frustrating with page navigation crashing on every second or third button press.  Honestly I just don't need the stress.
I guess I should also consider finally migrating my few remaining mailboxes away from the Plusnet IMAP servers to my independently hosted email service, so I no longer get bombarded with spurious packets from the load-balancers when I have my email client open.
Plusnet clearly don't consider fixing a problem that affects their network to be a priority issue, otherwise they would have done it last year !

Re: Site Errors (Slow pages, slow posting, connection reset, uploads failing)

Hi guys,
I had a good chat with the operations team on this and we are making progress with what's causing the issue.  I'll update you with a little more detail next week on it.

Re: Site Errors (Slow pages, slow posting, connection reset, uploads failing)

Kelly,
This issue is a real frustration to those of us (and I expect CRT too) who spend a lot of time in here trying to help customers.  Fixing it has to be beneficial to everyone, especially considering the forum's importance in the support process. There is a great deal of experience out here offering to help.  Is there no way that those generous offers can be taken up to assist your ops guys to bottom this out?
You've got offers to help test this from someone who (frankly) seems to understand the issue (or at least the symptoms) better than the support team.  Who needs to be influenced to move this forward?

Re: Site Errors (Slow pages, slow posting, connection reset, uploads failing)

The problem isn't as simple as it sounds in my earlier communication.    The offers are appreciated, but now wouldn't actually help!  Hopefully a bit more detail and a plan next week!
