Here we are, Saturday. Things generally ought to be a bit quieter, especially at this time of year, so you'd expect things to run a bit smoother and more quickly. Nope, this forum has been like treacle since I first came on here at ~0930 and it's no better now  Angry

Re: Site Errors (Slow pages, slow posting, connection reset, uploads failing)

These forums seem fine to me. Perhaps the combination of workarounds I've made on my computer has made some sort of difference. I even attached two images to a post and it neither timed out nor took a ridiculously long time to complete (although it wasn't particularly quick either).

Would you be so kind to compile a full list of your workarounds, so that other can test with & it may also help PN to fix the known issues Wink

Re: Site Errors (Slow pages, slow posting, connection reset, uploads failing)

I get the occasional spinning load icon when browsing the forum, maybe 10 or 12 a day but not the complete failures that some seem to get.
A couple of refreshes usually sorts it for me.

Re: Site Errors (Slow pages, slow posting, connection reset, uploads failing)

1. Edit your hosts file or whatever so that community.plus.net is 212.159.9.110 if you are on a PCL gateway, or 212.159.8.110 if you're on a PTN / PTW gateway
2. In firefox, about:config, reduce network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server to 2.
Perhaps I should make a script that randomly applies or undoes those changes and see if I can tell any difference.

Re: Site Errors (Slow pages, slow posting, connection reset, uploads failing)

I have just changed network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server from 6 (default) to 32 - instead of 2.
Makes absolutely no difference - but it takes about a second to load anyway.

Re: Site Errors (Slow pages, slow posting, connection reset, uploads failing)

If you change it to 255 (the maximum) I doubt you'll see any difference either. It's an upper limit. If you make it bigger, it might not be restricting anything. But if you make it very small, then it's much more likely to be restricting the number of connections.

Re: Site Errors (Slow pages, slow posting, connection reset, uploads failing)

Well I changed FF network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server to 2 this morning, and been using it off and on all day and it's made absolutely no difference whichever community IP address I was connected to whilst on a pcl gateway. - perhaps to be expected. As purleigh mentioned, spurious packets would get stopped at the firewall in any event. It's not clear how this change would ensure receipt of the correct packets anyway.

In the last half hour (approx) - I'm losing the plot now (here come the comments) - even when page has loaded, half the time the style has been wrong. Plusnet, FGS get this sorted.
