EDIT: Broken quotes fixed (and considering I don't use this forum very often, it could have been days before I noticed the quote was broken).

You are not the only one.
I sometimes visit other forums infrequently, and until now, it has been a godsend to be able to amend  spelling  / grammatical mistakes, especially if no-one else posted during the 10 hour period, and I was not aware of it.
Multi-quoting as it stands at the moment, is a nightmare at the best of times, you only really get to see the finished result by posting, preview can be confusing.
And of course, if for some reason you are unable to amend various quote and make the post more readable, they remain as a confusing post.
So, I am behind 7up on this.
And others too.

Re: MODIFY Post not available Sunday 17th November 2013 early. New posts OK ?

I'm for locking posts after a certain period of time - maybe 2-3 days ?
I'm sure if there is anything pressingly urgent to edit then a quick message to a moderator should suffice.
(Speaking as a moderator for another forum where we've had similar issues with edited posts !)

But thats just it, the mods are choosy who they will help. I reported a few offensive posts towards me and the mods side with the aggressor.
If I'm honest, as much as I like a couple of the mods here, they're not the most helpful of people. Like most people I'm on many forums and there are mods on many of them who will go out of their way to help. On this board I'm never entirely sure where I stand as the rules bend to suit whatever the forum politics of the time dictate.

The message may be quick, but the response sometimes is not.
Especially overnight.
On the whole though, the mods do a reasonable job.

Jesus, is this really an issue?
Don't modify posts older than 10 hours, because more often than not your edit will have not been seen anyway.  If you have something relevant to add to a discussion, add a new damn post.
Otherwise, I have a molehill in my back garden I'd like to have made into a mountain.  Can anyone help?

In re-reading a thread, there is indeed an earlier post I wish to correct a spelling mistake.
Normally, previously, I would just correct it, especially if I was going to quote that part containing the error.
I will wait until daytime, then I will indeed send a quick message, via report post of the following post , and ask for the amendment.

UPDATE:
The spelling mistake in the post has been corrected at my request.
Thanks @strat.

Why bother for goodness sake
If you will insist on quoting your own post just correct the error in the quote

There may be some movement on this 10 hour rule........
Here's hoping.

I occasionally have difficulty posting a relevant image with a post.
Before anyone else has responded.
Many of my posts are late evening to 2am ish. (HK & USA Business Skypes & Phone Calls)
Well known how long sometimes, if at all, images with posts, and posts with images,  take forever to load on the Plusnet Forums.
I try again, and sometimes I am able to add the image, sometimes it takes a couple of goes, outside of an arbitrary 10 hour period.
So you are asking me to quote ( or partially quote, more likely) a post without an image, just to add an image ?
Which I may or may not be able to do, then I end up with a quoted post, with no images at all, if outside this 10 hours period.
Spelling & Grammar are not the only reasons to modify a recent post
I do see your point, but there is another point of view too.

Re: MODIFY Post not available Sunday 17th November 2013 early. New posts OK ?

So a good compromise would be to maybe increase the edit time to 24-48 hours ?
Would that make most people happy ?

Re: MODIFY Post not available Sunday 17th November 2013 early. New posts OK ?

It's pointless editing a post to add images or new information after a couple of hours let alone 10 because anyone who uses the forums as I do and just goes from the UNREAD POSTS or REPLIES TO YOUR POSTS is highly likely not to see the changes. I'd like to see the 10 hours reduced if we are going to have such a policy. Or perhaps a shorter limit being applied when there are replies added afterwards.
What is needed (and that seems to be severely lacking here) is common sense. Adding new posts with extra information or images is not bumping and should not be picked up by the moderators.

That sort of thing gets reported to us as bumping.

Surely you mean pointless editing a post?
You might want to edit that (and preferably before the limit runs out ;))

Well in that case it's the moderators who need to show some common sense and ignore bumping reports where the new post has added fresh information etc. The rules say
Quote
"Bumping" is the act of adding to a thread just to get your topic back to the top of the list in a forum

The significant word in there is "just".
