Re: Images

There has been no official Plusnet response to this problem of very long delays in approving images, and this forum is now unusable to have any interactive back and forth exchange with another user needing help where screenshots would tell a thousand words. People seeking help are just giving up and not returning to the question they asked, leaving the frustrated helper hanging not knowing when an image will get approved (at all) or whether the questioner has lost patience and given up..

In a recent example when I was trying to help someone, I posted an image, and 386 topic readers viewed my post with the blocked image, so they all missed what I was demonstrating, but days later when the image was eventually approved, no one other than me checking, ever returned to that topic because there was no notification that anything had changed. Therefore I had completely wasted my time trying to help a Plusnet customer who wouldn't have got any help from Plusnet support.

Could a Superuser escalate this issue to Plusnet management, as the silence from the "Community Gaffers" (despite being tagged to respond) would suggest that they are ignoring the problem, rather than either scrapping the censorship (as the new laws don't apply to this type of forum), or showing any signs of looking to replacing the 'approval process' with a real-time solution (as previously suggested).

Re: Images

Yea, must admit that since @James_B was instructed by management to to post that misleading/untruthful 'announcement', all the top people on this forum have been strangely silent, despite being tagged multiple times.

If I see a request for help  starting that would best be explained graphically, I now don't even consider replying - it it is a total and utter waste of my time and effort.

@outcast Don't expect an official response.

Re: Images

@outcast

It has been escalated, it is not being ignored ... no answers have emerged yet.  We have a tendency to escalate some stuff before being asked by the community ... when issues look inevitable.

I have just been in and approved some recent images, but I will be clear, I am not disposed to approving images containing personal details (email addresses / account names etc).

If there is a post with an image you need approving; in the interim, you might consider reporting the post to the mods .. or just tag a SU.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: Images

Ok, so I hit a new problem with censored images !

1)  When exchanging screenshots via "Private Message", how long is it expected to take for images to be 'authorised' ?

2)  FWIW I don't think other forum members (even if Moderators or Superusers) should be trawling my PMs for fixing images.

3)  Why the hell are images in PMs being blocked anyway ? surely "the law" is for protecting children who can't see my PMs !

@James_B  this situation is just not good enough ! ! !

@outcast

If you are interested in anything I say, I see images, the message counterparty but not the conversation text.

Edit: I'm researching my answer for correctness

Re: Images

The images I see are not from any PM between the owner of the pictures and you.
From what I can see I have no way of viewing yours or anyone's PM to release images.
I do understand your frustration.
This will be added to the escalation.

Re: Images

And a month later, we are still no further forward to resolving this situation. I note with deep regret that NONE of the individuals with 'ADMIN' on their avatars have even deigned to comment, even if just to attempt to 'defend' this action - understandably, I suppose, because they can't.

NOTE: 'unapproved' images do not now appear on a users profile page, so someone with authority is reading this topic and has closed the loophole. It would be good if they had the decency to reply, but...

Re: Images

To be truthful, @outcast , I am very close to it. Unfortunately, the event that would trigger it - a request for help which needs pictures - hasn't occurred yet, except on those which I have left to you and others to reply to, but the first on that takes my interest / I feel I am competent to answer  that arises, I shall reply to, and raise Cain about - probably pointless, but it will make me feel better, and then I shall just fade away.

Nothing is being, or will be done though.

Re: Images

I’ve just approved a few images.  Somewhere I’ve suggested that if you nudge the mods then they will approve the images.

Re: Images

That idea may work, @Townman  - but it really, really should not be necessary - the business has had, as @grumble pointed out, two years to prepare, and despite the length of this topic, we haven't heard a peep from them.

As I said earlier, this is just another nail in the forums coffin.

I may be be being cynical here, but it appears that BT PLC have seen a chance to nobble a very useful facility, and grabbed it with both hands.

I've tried flagging the mods a few times recently and nothing gets done.

On many occasions I stay up half the night, trying to talk people through router problems or tuning QoS, and need to exchange screenshots,  it would be hopeless waiting for any mods to do anything overnight,  when they barely do anything useful during daylight hours.

Perhaps if everyone who discovers an image they can't see, tags @James_B to 'authorise' the image, perhaps he will realize how much of a problem this is.  Earlier I posted a reply that around 800 people tried to view in the first 4 hours, but were unable to see what I posted.  I have no idea how many people had tried when the image eventually appeared 10 hours later,  but of course those initial 800 won't have come back a second time on the off chance my reply was now visible.

Re: Images

Waste of time tagging @James_B  - he can only reply when those above him, who obviously drafted the misleading 'Announcement' he posted, give him permission.

I'm not surprised at the lack of response from anyone in Plusnet as it seems this topic is marked as fixed . Post #2 is the fix apparently!
You can check out but you can never leave ( easily)
