Re: Peak time latency spikes

Does anybody know if there's an exchange checker that shows FTTC capacity yet?

Re: Peak time latency spikes

Not that I am aware of (and I have looked a fair bit).
What you want is 21CN capacity - links/nodes etc. Not sure if this info is readily available or even supplied to ISPs. I reckon the majority of times that ISPs report capacity issues to BTW, before BTW reports it to them.

Re: Peak time latency spikes

I think you are probably right there Andy  I'm not even sure if I trust the 20CN data provided by the Exchange Checker any more. I don't know if the data that Dave has is the same as used to update the checker as I'm STILL waiting for an answer the my question here Angry

Re: Peak time latency spikes

Whitebox results OK again yesterday nearly a full week now of line normal here. I don't know what the two fixes PN did the first restored most of my peak time speed drop the second got rid of the few Mb speed drop but it has worked here.
I've noticed few people have stopped posting in this thread so I'm assuming that their problems have been resolved. For those of you who are still experiencing drastic speed drops like finguz I hope the PN and BT tech guys can sort the problem out asap.
I'll stop posting here unless I get major speed problems again at peak times and may I thank all the PN users who have been very helpful and supportive over the last month and of cause the PN guys who have worked hard behind the scenes to resolve the problems. I've had a few ISP over the years and they are the most visual and helpful I've ever dealt with and this forum is a credit to PN on it's unique live support.Maybe your so good and quick with the majority of problem solving some of the posters expect instant results and when it's not forthcoming you get a few rants which are not deserved.
Thanks to all and I'll still drop by the thread and others  to see the progress been made.
Thanks BJN

My first peak time usage for over a week - currently on gateway ptw-ag03.
So ping and upstream unaffected, just a significant downstream drop still.

Can you start a thread in broadband and routers please?

Re: Peak time latency spikes

Anyone still experiencing significant slowdowns, please ensure you have raised a fault ticket and have started your own thread in Broadband and Routers. We'll still keep an eye on this thread, however troubleshooting of the remaining few issues is easier on separate threads.
Thanks.

Re: Peak time latency spikes

Great to see the main issues gone for most. Since I initially had trouble with Usenet (& a big drop in speed a few weeks ago),  I've not noticed any issues now for at least a week. Well done Plusnet!

Thanks AndyH, it appears my exchange is showing as 'amber' so the likely cause of my downstream slowdown has been identified. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find that information myself, it came from the horses mouth via Plusnet.
Regardless, it has confirmed my suspicions and will apparently be resolved shortly  Cool

Re: Peak time latency spikes

Personally, I'm not 100% convinced.  You are seeing a lot of packet loss on those graphs!  We do need to get rid of the amber warning though.  Can't see the wood for the trees scenario Smiley

Re: Peak time latency spikes

The spikes of packet loss are when I reset my router multiple times ( hopping gateways ) in a vain attempt to find throughput  Wink
That was also the cause of the ' packet loss ' the last time I raised this issue too. I did try to explain at the time, but the engineer and replacement router had already been arranged.
If I leave my connection alone I get zero packet loss, now that the peak time Plusnet issue has been resolved/reduced.
For example, I have not reconnected my router at all since last night. The red spikes from last night are a direct result of me clicking disconnect and reconnect in my router gui.

The regular yellow peaks are auto speedtests I currently have running on one of my machines.
Of course BT are part of the equation so anything is possible, and you might be right. I'm just hoping you're not  Grin

I was meaning the packet loss on this graph:

Re: Peak time latency spikes

I figured you were, and that was during the peak time latency/throughput issues with Plusnet. I remember that night very well indeed, after spending a good chunk of it reconnecting and rebooting my router looking for throughput. My point being that when Plusnet is behaving and the exchange isn't overloaded ( If that ends up being the cause of these latest issues ) that my connection performs very well.

You see a similiar effect here...

When I was hopping to try and improve things, thinking it was the Plusnet issue again. The difference in the second graph being that it has nothing to do with Plusnet issues ( which had been fixed by then ) so no packet loss caused by overloaded Plusnet cards, or whatever it was.
Of course we will have to wait and see, but I can't see what else could be causing the issue.

Re: Peak time latency spikes

I think it's the constant low level packet loss from 4pm to 11pm that's worrying Kelly. We've not seen anything like that on anyone else's graph.

Re: Peak time latency spikes

I can appreciate that, but it hasn't happened again on my graph either, hence my blaming it on the Plusnet peak issues.
The only thing that has changed here is my huawei modem, which was replaced by an ECI /r, and a replacement TG582n, although in fairness I have used both the old and the new router on and off after reporting the second fault.
I am not arguing with Kelly or anyone else for that matter, I know nothing about the technical side of networking/broadband, merely stating what I can see.
Surely if that packet loss was something to continue worrying about, I would be seeing it regularly, and not just that one evening/night?

Edit: I am more than happy to share my TBB login with a staff member so you can look at my BQM history if that would help  Smiley
