Re: Peak time latency spikes

Pretty poor this evening in terms of speed and ping/jitter:
General web browsing is slow and I suspect any attempt to stream would result in the spinning circle of doom.
pcl-ag07

Upload speeks spike at the very end of the test, otherwise are about 0.17, download hovers around 3Mb/s and then spikes to the result seen at the end.
Going to ditch this gateway so I can start a new monitor, as other one went red when the router dropped connection.
Any input from PN staff?

Re: Peak time latency spikes

Streaming video (stvplayer) started stuttering about 15 minutes ago.
On gateway pcl-ag05.

Gateway hopped - now on gateway ptw-ag01.

Much better, but still not as good as normal.
So, problem still ongoing then...

Re: Peak time latency spikes

Another spedtest - it's going downhill fast on pcl-ag07:

Ping now worse, will hop and post back:

And a TBB graph, for how long I have been connected this evening:

Re: Peak time latency spikes

This gateway hopping lark is a right pain in the wotsit.  I have just had to do it twice to get off pcl-ag07 - is there some conspiracy to keep peoples speeds low at peal times, or am I becoming cynical? Roll_eyes
As I have said before, this should not be necessary!  I am sure there are people who have left Plusnet as they do not know this is the problem and that hoping gateways will probably sort it - but why should we have to keep doing this - there is clearly a network issue.  There are nearly 50 pages of info and data here, how much more do we need to provide.  This is really getting beyond a joke, and one of those really bad Christmas cracker ones at that...  Speaking of Christmas, will my internet work without problems by then?!  Huh
So, now on ptw-ag03 and getting the following:

Just as bad, speed is low until the end of the test.  Actual average speed was c. 2Mb/s - now getting really hacked off with this - off to gateway jump again.  I'm thinking of charging PN a fiver each time I have to log in to my router for 'admin costs'!!  Even listening to classical music is not calming me down  Angry

Re: Peak time latency spikes

I'm a little confused as to what is going on !
My gateway is 'ptw-ag04',  on 20CN ADSL.
My TBB graph is quite normal and flat.
My browsing is working fine, not laggy at all.
Pingtest and speedtest report latency of 64ms, but using ping in a console gives 30ms. - usually they are similar !
"Speedtest", iPlayer test, and "mybroadbandspeed", ALL say my speed has collapsed from 7150Kbps to 2700Kbps.
My router stats are normal and synced at full speed.
My Plusnet profile is 7150Kbps.
I have only previously seen latency issues but tonight my speed has dropped to a third !
What is unusual is that when running the speedtests, normally there is a few peaks and troughs as the test progresses, but currently they are remarkably flat.

Re: Peak time latency spikes

Ok, 5 gateway jumps later and I seem to have a gateway (ptw-ag01) that is serving reasonable speeds, latency and jitter across the board, although not as good as results during the day - hopefully it will last:

Maybe the PN network is buckling as a result of the ad campaign.  Contrary to the official position about no capacity issues, surely it is common sense that when people get home from work, have dinner and fire up the internet it is about 7pm - the time the internet slows down - and then starts to speed up around 11pm, bedtime?
Not sure what else we can do/expect as this has been going on for a while and shows no signs of being fixed, very disappointed in the overall service performance from PN in terms of the internet speed an reliability.  Staff are very helpful and have been keen to try and resolve these problems, but there is no excuse whatsoever for allowing this to drag on for so long.  Are those of us who have posted going to be given some sort of compensation for this, free month(s), a refund etc?Huh

I agree with the above we just not getting what we pay for most of us work in day so we getting the crappy services when get home

Pingtest/Speedtest are pinging your router. From console you are pinging a remote site. Not sure what could cause latency for pings to be asymmetric, but that seems to be what you are experiencing.
