Re: Peak time latency spikes

I saw a few web page loading false starts for a few minutes before 18:00, but then recovered.
I'm still on 'ptn-ag01'
My TBB ping chart looks about the same as this time yesterday.
Pingtest to my usual fastest test server 'Xilo' was 42ms with 2ms jitter only half an hour ago, but is starting to creep up.

Re: Peak time latency spikes

I think I have been hit by this (or at least, something not good) too. My speeds have been reduced tonight by over two thirds of what it normally is (around 60Mbps) and ping has increased from around 20-30ms to 60ms on speedtest.net:

Although a traceroute to bbc.co.uk seems slower than I first had when I first joined, but still pretty much normal:
$ traceroute bbc.co.uk
traceroute to bbc.co.uk (212.58.241.131), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets

Re: Peak time latency spikes

Latency still getting worse !

Can still get full speedtest results on most London servers, but the graph plot of progress is quite jagged whereas it is normally quite even.

iPlayer test results are much slower than I have ever seen before -

TBB ping graph looks worse than yesterday

My FTP connection just unexpectedly got "closed by host" while attempting to upload these pictures. That has NEVER happened before.
Youtube seems OK with no stalling or frame losses.
No buffering issues on iPlayer.
eBay page loading in multiple tabs seems to be OK, where this is usually the first symptom that I see.
I don't do any gaming so can't comment on that.

Purleigh:  Ok, so you are only noticing a problem because of the tests, rather than it's interrupting with normal use?  That's nice to know at least.  (Obviously doesn't mean you should expect this though)

Re: Peak time latency spikes

I've now hit that magical time where my upload speed is faster than my download speed, which is now also lower than the former ISP's peak time speed I got as late as a month ago:

BT Speedtester results even worse:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 5.72 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 16 Mbps-65.89 Mbps .
Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 65.89 Mbps
2. Upstream Test:  -provides background information.
Upload Speed
9.99 Mbps

0 Mbps 20 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 9.99Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps

ETA: Switching to gateway ptw-ag03 has got speeds back to more what they should be (around 60Mbps) with 30ms pings. Something about pcl-ag02 isn't right tonight.

Re: Peak time latency spikes

Yes, internet is perfectly usable at the moment, just feels slightly unresponsive but not to the point of being annoying.
When it becomes a problem for me is when I open many tabbed eBay pages, and I end up having to refresh each tab because the page hasn't loaded, but that isn't happening just now.

Re: Peak time latency spikes

I'm seeing some interesting things.
My speeds are well down:

and my ping graph is atrocious:

Tracerts seem to be 'okay', although a little slower than usual.

 1     8 ms    99 ms    99 ms  dsldevice.lan [192.168.1.254]
 2    14 ms    14 ms    15 ms  lo0-central10.ptw-ag03.plus.net [195.166.128.197]
 3    14 ms    14 ms    13 ms  link10-central10.ptw-gw02.plus.net [84.93.248.82]
 4    33 ms    35 ms    34 ms  xe-7-2-0.ptw-cr02.plus.net [212.159.1.22]
 5    13 ms    13 ms    13 ms  ae2.ptw-cr01.plus.net [195.166.129.4]
 6    37 ms    32 ms    31 ms  kingston-gw.thdo.bbc.co.uk [212.58.239.6]
 7     *        *        *     Request timed out.
 8    14 ms    14 ms    13 ms  ae1.er01.rbsov.bbc.co.uk [132.185.254.46]
 9    33 ms    34 ms    36 ms  132.185.255.60
10    34 ms    35 ms    33 ms  virtual-vip.thdo.bbc.co.uk [212.58.241.131]

Initially on ptw-ag03.  Whilst testing, I was disconnected and came back on pcl-ag02.  No issues for me on that gateway.
It all seems very random - i.e. not affecting a particular gateway, or PN datacentre.  I'm wondering if the problem might actually be in the BT wholesale network?  Reconnecting PPPoE will force a new circuit through the network and my theory is that a lot of VPs might be running hot with the massive takeup in FTTC?
I'm in Slough, and tonight is the first time I've experienced this issue first-hand.  Anyone else having issues in this area tonight?
EDIT:  Seems like I had the opposite experience as tgheretford here.

That was my conclusion yesterday when my pingtest results were better from foreign sites than anywhere in the UK.
If this was a Plusnet problem then all connections would be equally affected - whether UK or abroad.
If this is a BT issue then UK sites would be problematic, but international routes may be different - which is what I saw !

Re: Peak time latency spikes

It's been pretty bad for me tonight, lagging in games and Youtube buffering:

Gateway: ptw-ag02
Exchange: NETL (Currently Amber and no ETA for a fix either since December)
