Re: Launch of Plusnet Assist

so it seems that most of the posters on this forum are never going to use it (having Linux or non PN customers) and will thus not be able to offer their usual brand of advice. Brilliant! who thought that one up  Crazy

Re: Launch of Plusnet Assist

Peter, we've had just shy of 1600 customers active in these forums over the last three months. That's less than 1% of our customer base. Don't get me wrong, the forums are invaluable and the help and support provided by everyone who contributes to them is much appreciated. Having said that, those that post here can't really be considered to be 100% reflective of our overall customer-base!

Re: Launch of Plusnet Assist

As the FAQ says IE has to be available on the computer (because it uses technology built into IE), but IE doesn't have to be the default browser. As far as Wi-Fi problems go it will (or used to) report a weak signal when the "problem" was the computer lacked a wireless card. Huh

Re: Launch of Plusnet Assist

I'm still chasing the prize for finding the first glitch  Cheesy
I lost the internet this evening. Not the link, all the router lamps were lit and steady but chrome was reporting pages unavailable.
Plusnet Assist reacted so far so good but it advised me to do a power cycle. Why not a soft disconnect and reset  Crazy

I guess most users can manage to switch the router off and on again, but how many (remember they may not have visited these forums) would know how to disconnect and reset without ringing the CSC?

Re: Launch of Plusnet Assist

It should really say not available for OS X, I have it running on an Apple Mac albeit in a virtualised environment.

Re: Launch of Plusnet Assist

HI rongtw
You got it, the main thing is it will be handy for people who haven't got the know-how when it comes to the likes of troubleshooting connectivity and email setup. It's easy for people to look for things that could be wrong with it, and it's not perfect, but is anything? It's good to know if there's anything we've missed, but hopefully we've covered most of it in the FAQ.
For me, the best thing, especially after helping people who have called up after trying to resolve their issue, is that they can get help with the obvious things, in their own time, without feeling frustrated. When I was on tech support I dealt with many customers who had misspelt an email server address, an ethernet cable unplugged or other such issues. It's ok for us that know where to look when these things happen, but there are an awful lot that don't, and that's where its strength lies IMO.

Re: Launch of Plusnet Assist

Well its telling me that I have no security, which not correct .  I have Bullguard v10 security suite installed and operational.
As I don't use Internet Explorer or Plusnet email it wont be of much use me personally.
I can see how some might find it useful ,it is very early days.

Re: Launch of Plusnet Assist

me to  Huh
I think an opportunity has been missed to cover all of the wisdom of this forum. The product seems to be "dumbed down" to an extent that I (and others) can do better without it. Why not put some aspirational actions in it so it will guide people into something which could never be achieved by telephone help or even this Forum

OK I want the the "My Network" and the directory to useful pages, but I don't want the "pop ups" telling me I have a problem when I don't or am happy with the set up I have have got. Can I configure or disable them? I cant find any help on this.
