What’s changing?
There’ll be a number of things but to name just a few:
...

  • We’ll be removing the need to be a Plusnet customer to post on our Community – it will be open to all

...

It will be interesting to see how this will change the forums. Will non PlusNet customers be interested in joining the forums, and what will their motives be.

I can think of a few over at TBB who would jump at the chance to create absolute havoc

All pages will be optimised for mobile

Not another site going west.
Plusnet will just become another one to avoid on the PC.

Don't worry - some of the testers (me for one) don't even possess such a device and while it is a bit different to what we have now it is fine on a PC.
It's not optimised for mobile such that on a real PC it's trashed - it adapts according to the device.

Re: Community Update - Changes are coming!

Then why not say it's optimised for a range of formats?
Instead of the more than suggestion of low res devices.

That was my concern. Glad I am not a moderator any more!

All sounds pretty good! Though I hate the lithium boards on EE so hope yours are better!

Re: Community Update - Changes are coming!

Good luck with the switch, it sounds good. I am, however, with OJ and Chilly about opening the forums to non-Plusnet customers.

Must admit I was thinking "Oh No, not loads of 5 word lines of text that will look really rubbishy on a PC"

Re: Community Update - Changes are coming!

Sounds like it's being styled from a 320 and Up viewpoint.
Where you start styling for a mobile device and as more screen space is available add more complex styling, display additional elements, etc.

If it aint Broke, so the current/old site may have been going for a while but why change something that works?
isnt this just a case of form over function?

Re: Community Update - Changes are coming!

I agree with others , having non PN customers joining the forum, could cause chaos , and keep the mods over worked .
Everything else sounds good though

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Why do some (misguided) companies think this is a good idea.
Don't tell me, all the board members are in their twenties and sit around playing on their phones all day.
I see "optimised for mobile" as a backwards step.
Some of these "optimised" pages look like the ones on my PC when I had windows 95 and visited bulletin boards.

If it goes the same as some other forums that have been "improved" it'll be another I avoid.  I like just browsing in the hope of picking up snippets of wisdom.  Dreading the final unveiling.

Re: Community Update - Changes are coming!

I'll second @oldjim and @IT Works comments
Having such a company run forum open to non Plusnet subscribers is just an open invitation to the some the 12 years old that inhabit the interweb to cause chaos.
If Plusnet insist then at least have something in the avatar tray/image/screename location to say that x is a Plusnet subscriber or not as the case maybe.....
As already said some on TBB which is becoming more like a haven of escapeees from care in the community sometimes would like nothing more than simply to post endless drivel and trolling statements on such a forum.
you would end up with the same issues of factual accuracy and verifiability that say Trip Advisor faces.
What are Plusnet going to do when we get the trolling allegations of "you mucked up my line"
Are they really going to reply with "you are not  a plusnet subscriber so foxtrot oscar"
Are they going to be going though checking the verifiability of a poster and then if appropriate deleting it.
....It's just going to cause mega work and that before you get the endless spam bots trying to register and sell you you their *****

Re: Community Update - Changes are coming!

I hope this change actually saves PN some money at least. If it doesn't there's an account system in much more urgent need......  Crazy
