RE: yanky laptop

Biggest prob could be the power, they're 110V, we're 240V.

Depends if the laptop can change voltage.

We have laptops we have bought in the UK and when we take them overseas we don't normally have any problems. The power adaptors on our Dell's work at both 110 and 240.

You will need a different modem lead to plug into the uk phone socket, but adaptors are cheap. As for software I'm not sure.

I would have thought one problem would be warranty repairs and support?

One way you could do it would just to replace the PSU inside the laptop this would probably be the easiest way to avoid any problems with over powering the laptop.
