old device settings cleanup

Hi

I've read that every time I plug a USB device into a different port, it re-installs it, leaving the settings, including the drivers, in place for the previous port. Likewise, when I don't use a device (maybe ever again) the settings, drivers etc are left in place. I just can't see them, because the device isn't plugged in.

I know I'm simplifying, but I'm a simple person.Shockedops:

My question is, is there a utility that allows me to clean up all the detritus left by this process under Win XP?
