how do you set up a wifi network

Hi

I have a similar setup at home myself ,

1 main pc connected to a linksys WAG54G via lan connection,
1 spare pc connected via wireless card,
1 laptop connected via wireless card,

I used winxp to config these for me via the home network setup solution ,

--> start / my network places

you can then select which options you want here eg

setup a home or small office network

or

setup a wireless network for home or office

Follow the onscreen prompts, and it is quicker to use a floppy when asked for to use on the other computers,

This will set all your computers up together , one thing you will need to do though to share files between each computer is to right click for instance your main hard drive on your main pc and goto properties / sharing and security and tick the box that says share this folder on the network,

You will need to do this with each computer that you want to share files with,

Hope this helps a little, each router is slightly different ,

Here is some more information that may help you,

how do you set up a wifi network

Hi

One other piece of information not mentioned above:

When connecting your computers you either need to turn off the firewalls on each computer and rely on the built in modem one (if it has one), or manually allow each computer access to the other computers through the firewall(s)

I would suggest that you make sure that your router security is set up as well, you wouldn't want someone sitting in their car up the road accessing your files :!:

how do you set up a wifi network

Well spotted John Cheesy

I always forget that part as I use my router firewall and have software based firewalls on all my pc's.

I don't like winxp firewall it gives a false sence of security.
