What is an .iso file?

If I was to download a software prog, let's say it's named as CD1.iso and it's about 650mb, how do you:-
1. install this type of file?
2. what is this type of file?

Thanks in advance for any info.

RE: What is an .iso file?

Ok here you go..

An iso file is a image of a cd usally created by an application such as winiso (www.winiso.com), with an iso file it is a direct copy of the cd in question so it would be just the same as if you bought it in the shop.

Two things you can do with an iso you can burn it to a cd via nero or many other burning applications.
Or you can use an iso tool such as winiso which allows you to see what is inside the iso file (what would be on the CD if you burnt it), then you can extract them to your hard drive rather than buring them.

Hope this helps..
