Website URLs?

I recently have decided to put my webspace into action so I decided to create a web portal. So,
SQL... Activated in seconds
CGI.... Activated in a couple of weeks

After uploading my files to crofter's folder "cgi.domain.net/htdocs/portal/" I tried accessing the space using my Browser to:

cgi.domain.force9.co.uk/portal/123.php... Not Found
cgi.domain.force9.co.uk/htdocs/portal/123.ph... Not Found
[changed to cgi.domain.f9.co.uk]... Not found
[...cgi.domain.f9.net.uk]
######Then I tried the usual server...
www.domainname.force9.co.uk... Not Found
[...f9.co.uk]....
#### i tried all combination....

no success a part from one (forgot which url but I used ".../cgi-bin/portal/123.php" But this was just a page showing the script [As if PHP wasnt installed].

Please can somebody tell me the URL that directs me to my CGI directory!!!! The same with the usual webspace too please!!!

I experienced a similar problem with the setup of CGI on my webspace

I clicked on activate, and received the message "will be ready to use within 4 days"
Sadly, it took 10 days

The settings you are using are correct, you just need to wait for PlusNet to link the DNS settings and CGI server together

Once your CGI webspace has been setup you will receive an eMail, with details of how to access server (crofters) with the username, password, and TelNet instructions

Thank for the help, but...

I have already recieved the email confirming my CGI- entitled 'CGI Services' from 'Force9 Support' which informed me of all of my details (u/n, password, server etc.)

I logged onto the server, uploaded my files and then tried running them (previous post) with no luck...

Any Suggestions...

Also please could you tell me 'which' URL is correct from the above....

The URL to your space on the CGI server is http://cgi.kanibal.force9.co.uk/
The URL to your space on the WWW server is http://www.kanibal.force9.co.uk

To upload files to the CGI server you should use an FTP server of crofters.force9.net and the username and password specified in the email.

To upload files to the WWW server you should use an FTP server of homepages.force9.net and your accounts username and password.

All perl scripts should be uploaded to the cgi-bin on crofters. All PHP scripts should be uploaded to any folder OTHER than the cgi-bin on crofters.

Perl scripts and PHP scripts will NOT work on the homepages server.

I think that covers everything you asked, if not reply and I'm sure someone will be able to fill you in Smiley

Hi Kanibal,
Just wondered if you knew that your files (except in the cgi-bin) are not secure and open to all prying eyes!!
You need a .htaccess file or two to protect your directories.
Also did you know that if you apply to F9 you can get them to shorten the Url on your crofters files from: http://cgi.kanibal.force9.co.uk/my_directory
to:
http://cgi.kanibal.co.uk/my_directory
hope this useful

You need a .htaccess file or two to protect your directories.

Or a blank file called index.htm. However, that still means that people can view your files if they have SSH or Telnet access to crofters.

Only if you happen to own the domain "kanibal.co.uk" (or any domain, really, as long as the Nameservers point to Force9) - which it appears you do not.
