Sending mail from mailserver gives "Authentication fail

I've setup one of my users on F9 ADSL after they have been using the Internet via ISDN and Freeserve for the past couple of years.

Part of the system has a mail server running on thier central server. After setting up the Mail server with F9's server settings for SMTP I get a "Authentication failure" message when initial handshaking is done with F9's SMTP server.

I've overcome this now by telling the mail server to send directly to the receipients server. I'm not keen on keeping this as some servers reject direct connections from user end mail servers.

Is there anything specific I need to setup on the users account to allow SMTP traffic through. POP is handled by a non F9 server and works fine.

Any help appreciated.
