Performance advice

I'm planning to move my whole website to the cgi platform to take advantage of the PHP capability.

I've only dabbled in the past, so I'm wondering; what is the performance of the CGI server like compared to homepages? An option I'm considering is leaving larger static files such as images and and zip files on the homepages server and only having the html and scripts on the CGI server. There's no technical disadvantage to me doing so, so would it be worth it performance wise or should I just whack everything on the CGI server?

Any advice more than welcome.

Thanks in advance,
Jay

Performance advice

Well, after a few tests this morning with Ethereal it seems that there is very little in it, with results alternating at random between each server being only marginally quicker (~50ms) than the other, probably due to varying network latency.

Anyone find their experience to be drastically different from that?

Generally, there's not much difference between the regular web servers and the cgi servers. The only slowdown tends to come if you're also wanting to access data off the mysql servers, as they can lag a under heavy traffic.
