My neigbour is off to NZ soon and asked me do dualband mobiles work there, I said I don't know but I know where to ask!!

If ever in doubt, deep searches in into the busienss section of the Vodafone website will help Smiley

The good news is that New Zealand use a single band. Based on the standard to stating how and where a phone works, a dual-band model will work.

Even GPRS services should work (network dependant).

The Nokia 6210 is dual-band and is reported to work in NZ.

Probably a bit late, and depending why your neighbour is after dual-band, but when I was in NZ a couple of years ago, I simply phoned Vodafone before I left and could top-up and use the phone happily when I was there (Pay as you go).
