Network confusion

hello!

I run a small network at home, not much just 2 pc's linked together with 2 network cards & a 10metre cable.

Now, this is the confusion. I know nothing about cables & thought that a 10m & a 20m would be exactly the same as they are both UTP cables, but too mu surprise the 20m wouldn't work. It kept telling me that the network cable was unplugged when they weren't.

So i thought, right.....the cable is faulty so i bought another 20m & a 30m. But same problem. but 10m works fine. is it something to do with the length. I'm confused as i thought this would be ok despite the length and it would work.

Any ideas on why i face this problem, or do i need to buy something else?

RE: Network confusion

You will either need a cross ('x') cable or a hub. Check which cables you have. PC-PC will need to be crossover.
