Multi Boot with Windows XP

Good Morning.

I have a Multi Boot machine with Win 98 on
Drive 0, and Win XP on Drive 1. I can access
both of these from the boot menu without any
problems.

I have a drive 2 with another Win 98 install on it.
I have been unable to modify the boot.ini file to
allow me to boot to this drive.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks
John

RE: Multi Boot with Windows XP

I think you will find you cant load 98 from a 3rd drive, Xp/Nt/2k has a boot ini which tells it were to load its files(after it loads a few boot files) but 98 doesnt have this same option.

The only way you may do it is with a boot manager like System commander or there are shareware ones out there. The other way if you have a good bios it may let you set it in the bios to boot from the drive.

What you are realy trying to do is create Hyperos as this is exactly what the software does see

Here[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect
C:\="Microsoft Windows"
with copy of Boot.ini file.

Any help would be appreciated.

While you're at it could anyone post details of how to set up a Mulit-Boot system with 98 & 2000, please.

Cheers

Hi Mike,

1st create a dos partition for Win98, setup WIN98 on that partition. 2nd load the Win2000 CD and create a normal FAT32 or NTFS partition for the rest of the space. Bare in mind that WIN98 cannot read NTFS file system. Set-up WIN2000 on that partition.

Sorted! You now have a dual-boot system.

Hope it helps.
